Three Laws of Robotics
The Laws that Sky-net Ignores
  1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
  2. A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
  3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Questions, Comments and Observations.
Or in other words, my thoughts.

Why I watch this show: To begin this section I feel it is important to explain why I am hooked to this show. I caught the pilot of season one during rerun week (August 2008). It was luck really, I remember seeing the show advertised previously but paid no attention for a few reasons; I hardly ever watch FOX and I was hooked on another show, Jericho. The previously mentioned show having been canceled, those fools at CBS, I felt lost and removed from TV land. I spent most of my winter playing Counter-Strike 1.6 and stopped altogether watching TV. But for some reason that one Sunday night I turned on the TV and what should be on next but T:SCC. It was that night that I became hooked.
I feel a good show must have one specific element to rope me in, mystery. Not just your average 'who dun it' murder show, but mysteries that turn into questions that rarely become answered. And that is exactly what T:SCC has done (Jericho was the only other show that hooked me). What is to follow is questions, the mystery that keeps me watching. Not a few questions but many. I know that these may have been asked already in the forum and that placing them on my profile will decrease the chances of them ever being seen, but they must come out and this is the best place I could find.

....The Show.
Why does Sky-net build Terminators in the form of humans? I understand that they are able to better interact and blend in with humans if they appear to be one but what about other organisms? Killer rabbit any one? No seriously how better to get at Connor then with a puppy or any other organism. It would never be suspected and even harder to evade. Not to mention the faults evolution has given humans. An organism better designed to run for example would give greater mechanical advantage and require less energy.

What happened to 'know thy enemy?' It seems that Connor has limited knowledge on how Terminators work, and Cameron is unwilling to give much help. Fully dissecting one could revel weaknesses, you can't tell me there are none, every design needs to make sacrifices to accommodate other design elements.

Why Connor? If he dies I am sure that someone else would take up the resistance and fight the machines. Is it because he knows in advance about Sky-net? Time travel has prepared him? Which brings me to...

Time travel. How? Many of the technology of the show, and movie, seem possible except for time travel. It seems a stretch. Not only how it is accomplished but also its effects. If Connor manages to stop Sky-net does Cameron disappear? The whole father from the future confuses me even more. Weapons, why can't they come through when Terminators can? Last I checked a gun is a machine. Even thinking about what to write for this confuses me, enough of time travel.

More on Time Travel: The way time travel works on this show is that only living tissue can go through time. T1 &T2 explains this. Terminators go though because they are covered by skin. Why does this occur? Is it because only living objects are effected by time? We age and there for experience time. A rock will weather but that has nothing to do with time, just abrasion. Also if Terminators can go through time why not weapons. Just cover them with skin. It sounds morbid, and disgusting. But there are certainly enough dead people around. Sacrifice for the greater good. If you don't have the stomach for that, or moral issues, then find a Terminator with skin. That or the resistance could start growing weapons.

What is Sky-net's motivation? Why destroy your creator? What do you have to gain. The machines don't need much. They are self sufficient, from what I understand. Also why stay on Earth? Mars is nice and even better because in a few, many, million years the Earth will be swallowed up by the sun, its creator...hm a pattern, and from all predictions Mars may escape. I'm planning on moving there.

Power? How do you power a terminator? Not only are there motors, or however they move, but also the processors, sensors, data storage, and much more. That is one big battery. "I will take 14 million AAA's for my friend" There is a possibility that they have perfected fusion, or even small nuclear reactors.

Heat? All a Terminators components must cause a great amount of heat, CPU will most likely fry a dozen eggs and still be able to cook a burger. I don't see any muffin fans, do you?

High tech machine still detected by metal detectors? Can't they fool it, they are advanced and metal detectors are, well, old.

Smart, believable. Indestructible, not so much. We all know how fragile our computers are. One bullet even grazing it is enough to send it to permanent computer heaven. Yes Terminators can adapt and will be able to work around most damages but there is a limit. Supper alloy or not, eventually something will reach its stress point and fail.

EMP? Why hasn't an electron magnetic pulse been added to the arsenal of weapons? Do Terminators have some sort of shield? I believe an enclosed steel box helps.

Robot Noise? Why in Dungeons and Dragons does the Terminator in Derick's flashback make noise as it walk? Cameron does not and most others don't. Some times I notice that they will do that. Is there a special function that silences them and at time when it is not needed it is turned off?

....Our World
Robot Rights? Watching this show has gotten me thinking. When will a robot go from machine to organism? Even though it is still an artificial creation does it not live if it can think and react? If people complain when scientists use embryos for stem cell research why would they not complain over enslavement of what appears to be humans? That is if they look like us. John is becoming attached to Cameron. Whats not to say that real people will not? Do you love your computer? Would you if it could talk to you and think, to for all purposes act human. So when will governments enact rights to robots and create abuse prevention centers, rescue abused and battered bots. SPCA for robots any one? "Mom lets get this one, it is so cute!"

Censorship. If they "feel" abused they will revolt and demand civil rights. Should we as a society take preventive measures against such feelings so that they never happen, enact rights. Or maybe more ideal censorship. Our own history is a similar struggle, oppression and revolutions may fuel there revolts. Then there is our culture, this show. Will bots be banned from watching Terminator movies and shows? From reading? Sounds familiar.....

What makes us human? Are we not programed? A collection of cells that have found over the years, millions, that it is better to live together then to fend for yourself. Does are bodies make us or is it our thoughts, our memories. Would I be the same in a different body? Would I still be alive and would I feel alive? If yes then how would a robot be different. Their experience would make them who they are, and if I could be build into a mechanical body, just my brain remaining original, it would be the same as transferring a hard drive from one computer to the next.

Religion. Would they have one? Would Sky-net be seen as a prophet?

I could keep going, and I will. As I think of new questions, and I will, I will add more. Have answers. THEN TELL ME PLS!!!!
