Cameron’s Idea
Cameron had said little during the conversations of the day. She watched as Kilee smiled and joked with the young Kyle. She remembered the easy way the two had with each other in the future. They, as John often said, where two sides of the same coin. Sarah made supper everyone talked about the day. It was the first time in days that Kilee seemed a part of the here and now. Not living inside her own head. After dinner they all went to do their own things for a few hours. After awhile they searched each other out to say their goodnights and then they all went to bed. All but Cameron. Her mission was to protect the Connor’s, keep them safe from other machines called Terminators, or the hybrids like Linda. Cameron sat guard during the long night while the others slept. In the morning Kilee woke first. Cameron waited until after she had showered and came out to the kitchen to make breakfast. Then Cameron came over to her and said. “John told me that you wanted to get Kyle back.” Kilee glared at her “There is no way to save Kyle.” she said. Cameron picked up the bread and put it in the toaster for her. “What if there was?” she looked at Kilee and continued “John, Sarah and I used a time displacement device to get here from 1999. If we can find it we can take it apart and rebuild it. You could go back and save Kyle Reese.” She looked at Kilee. Kilee starred at her in shock. “Can you locate it for me?” “Well I know the location were we had it last. We can start there.” “Okay but why are you helping me with this?” Cameron looked into Kilee’s eyes “You never gave up on me you helped me protect the Connor’s. I want to give you something back." Kilee starred at her. She was about to say something but Sarah, John and Derek came into the room wanting breakfast. Kilee said “Thank you” to Cameron and they all sat down to breakfast.
The next Saturday morning Kilee woke extra early. She slipped out from under Derek’s arm and went into use the bathroom and shower. She left a note for Derek and the Connor’s saying that Cameron and her had things they needed to do that day and would not be home until late. They first went to the library. Cameron headed off to the computers and Kilee went to check out the old newspapers. After about two hours they met back in the main lobby. Not wanting to be over heard they headed to a noisy restaurant around the corner for lunch. They selected a booth way in the back, Kilee went first with her information. “A company called Tanner Enterprise cleaned up the explosion site. They were a new company and went bankrupt after a few years. That was all I could find on them.” She finished disappointed. Cameron looked at her and said “Tanner Enterprise was bought out by Cyber Industries in 2005. Their main offices are located in San Diego. “ “Okay” Kilee said “did you get an address.” “Of Course” Cameron said. “It is to late to go today so we'll have to wait until Monday.” Kilee thought out loud. “We will have to find a way to get around Sarah. I do not want any of them to know about this just yet.” “I understand” Cameron said “In case we can’t get the device right.” “Right” Kilee confirmed. They finished lunch and then went and picked up some supplies. They did not arrive back home until 6 with pizza and wings. Kilee waited until late Sunday to talk to Sarah about going to San Diego. Surprisingly when Kilee brought it up Sarah was all for it. She said that they could all use a day out on the town and the ‘kids’ needed school clothes and supplies. Monday morning dawned bright and sunny. They headed out after breakfast. Once in town they found the local mall. Cameron ditched the group early and returned just in time for lunch. It wasn’t until they returned home that Kilee was able to get Cameron alone to find out what she had learned. They headed out to the shed. “Well” Kilee said. “They said that nothing from the bank site was salvageable. It had all been farmed out to other factories to be melted down and recycled.” Cameron said. “Okay that’s what they said so what took you so long?” Kilee asked. Cameron smiled “I did a scan of the building and there is a floor that has heavy security with extremely high tech computers. Inside there was a vault that I couldn’t see through. It’s possible that what we are looking for is in there.” Kilee walked around in a circle for several minutes before answering. “There was no way for someone from our time to bring back the device, so that means that it had to have been built back here. Sometime before you used it.” “It was assembled and placed in the vault in 1997.” Cameron supplied. Kilee nodded tapping her finger on her lips. “So it is at least ten years old. Why would they keep it I n a high security vault? I don’t know if it would be there. It wouldn’t have looked like much.” Kilee looked questioningly at Cameron. “Back in 1999 it could have. They may have thought it was unique enough to keep.” Kilee sighed “I don’t know. I guess if they found it at the explosion sight they might have tried to study it and found that it wasn’t exactly what it appeared to be. We may as well find a way into that vault to check it out.” Then they headed back inside to the others.
