| ABOUT: Derek Reese Occupation: Resistance Fighter Derek Reese's Backstory: Derek Thomas Reese is a First Lieutenant with the 132nd S.O.C.; operational specialty is Tech-Com. He is Kyle Reese's brother (and John Connor's uncle), and is now aware of his brother's fathering of the leader of the resistance. In 2027, he was sent from the future by John to help the resistance in 2007. Biography: Pre-Judgment Day: Derek Reese was born in 1995 and lived a mundane life in L.A. suburbia up until the advent of Judgment Day on April 21, 2011. Kyle Reese and Derek Reese witnessed the launch of U.S. nuclear missiles while playing baseball in their yard. Derek took his younger brother underground for safety before the counterstrike. Post-Judgment Day: Derek grew to manhood while raising his younger brother in the post-apocalyptic world in which Skynet ruled. By 2027, he was an active resistance fighter living in a bunker with John Connor, and other resistance leaders. At one point, Derek attempted to commit suicide to escape the violence and chaos in his life, but saved by another fighter, Jesse, and they fell in love. His brother was also well-known for breaking out of a concentration camp with Connor. Derek was irritated by the picture of Sarah Connor his brother carried around with him. The picture, given to Kyle by John Connor himself, was his good luck charm. After being separated from his brother on a mission, Derek was captured by a terminator along with other humans. Derek was branded with a bar code by a terminator. In the house they were being held captive in, he was told by a man called Billy Wisher that Billy's real name was Andy Goode, and that he was the cause of Skynet, along with a group of other men. Goode pleaded for forgiveness. When the terminator strangely let all the humans go free, Derek returned to the bunker he lived in and found that it had been attacked by Skynet forces. Resistance fighters arrived and they updated Derek, telling him that the bunker was attacked, but his brother and John Connor were already out on a mission. Kyle did not return from this top-secret mission, angering Derek. He headed with the group to go and talk to John Connor about what happened to his brother. Meeting with John Connor, Derek learned about the time displacement device, and was sent on a mission by Connor 20 years back to 2007, to set up resistance fighters in the past to aid himself and his mother, and to attack the forming Skynet. Intent on changing the future for the better, Derek's personal plan was to kill Andy Goode, and stop him from creating Skynet thus preventing his brother's younger counterpart's eventual fate. Pre-Judgment Day Objective: After arriving in 2007, the four men set up in a room with a safe containing diamonds, to provide them with money and begin surveying possible Skynet progenitors. They are later attacked by a terminator T-888 ("Vick Chamberlain") sent back to protect the Skynet genesis after it detects them tracking its (human) wife Barbara Chamberlain, a key Skynet contributor. Derek escaped the attack. He then decided to continue his mission, and spied on Andy Goode. When Goode lost his military contract after a chess game against Japanese players, Derek shot and killed him. Sarah chased Derek until he was arrested by the police. Agent Ellison visited him in jail and told him that the blood on the murders he was wanted for wasn't his. Sarah Connor then visited him and found out that he is Kyle Reese's brother. John, Cameron, and Sarah then break him out while fighting a T-888 that posed as the fourth resistance fighter. They got Derek out, but he was shot in the chest. Derek was nursed back to life by Charley Dixon, a paramedic who used to be engaged to Sarah Connor. Now living with the Connors, Derek learned that his brother, Kyle, was a hero and died saving Sarah. Derek also showed feelings of distrust towards Cameron.. His new mission is to help the Connors in finding the Turk 2. Derek revealed his knowledge of John's parentage in "What He Beheld" while showing John his younger self playing in a park with Kyle as a child as a birthday present. Afterward, they begin their relationship as uncle and nephew, with John sharing Derek's determination to stop Judgment Day in order to save his father's young counterpart. He also discovered Jesse followed him through time without the authorization from The Resistance. At first upset over Jesse's abandoning her duty as a soldier, but remembering his suicide attempt, he understand Jesse's desire: to escape. They resume their romance. However, underneath her hotel bed, was a collection of photos of Derek and young John Connor, suggesting that she have been watching them for months and have other motive in the present beside wanting to be with Derek. Derek: My brother carried your snap for luck. Sarah: She's on our side.
Derek: [to Kyle] Your guts are made of metal like your head. If you were a little smarter, you'd be a tin can. Derek: Hey, Wisher, did you hear? My brother Kyle was in Sentry work camp. Derek: I hate that thing.
Derek: Put the machine on him. She'll find him. It's -
Derek (to private Pyle): Counting kills, like it's a game. Like it's just a game. I remember one particularly fun day. A guy in my squad got a stomach blasted open in a firefight. He's been six hours holding his own guts in. His buddy carried him on his back to the nearest aid station, just praying that someone could put the dumb son of a bitch together again. The game, Pyle, the game is played with your buddy's life. With the life of your squad. Your platoon. The game is played by you. On behalf of the whole damn human race! |

At 4:30, in this interview the most amazing, Garret Dillahunt talks about his role as John Henry, and more importantly, a SHOCKING DEATH...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBD_rchExrQ He says "[there's a more shocking death coming up]" "[that even surprised me]" 1) Jesse is not a huge surprise, we knew she was bad news since the beginning of when she appeared. 2) Riley is no big surprise, we knew she was trouble and would get hurt sooner or later. 3) Sarah and John cannot die, the show would be over. 4) Cameron can die, but the show would definitely be over then. And they hinted at it too much with the suicide stuff. That only leaves.... DEREK... He's human, he's not very smart (leaves cameron to fix tire??!!), and BAG is already looking for a new role in Body Politics on CBS, although he said it was "second priority to TSCC". I don't have insider info, I am just throwing this random theory out there. |
