Biography:Award-winning composer Bear McCreary has emerged as "one of the most innovative and intriguing composers on television" (Film Music Weekly) with his critically acclaimed score to Sci Fi Channel's ground-breaking series Battlestar Galactica. This series has been hailed by Time, Rolling Stone and Newsday as "The Best Show on Television," and won the prestigious Peabody Award. McCreary has also earned his share of acclaim. Kevin Smith's Quick Stop Entertainment proclaimed "McCreary astounds with his mastery in connecting the aural to the narrative... this fresh talent could be the vanguard of the next wave of important American composers. He’s bringing something new to the field of film composition." His score has been described as "sharp and sensitive" (The Wall Street Journal), "a key element in establishing the show's dark, complex tone," (The Hollywood Reporter) and "rich, raw, oddly stirring... kick-ass and powerful as hell," (E! Online). Both his Battlestar Galactica: Season Two and Season Three soundtrack albums rocketed into Amazon.com's TOP 30 Music Sales on their first days of release, and both were ranked by Visions in Sound as the "#1 Soundtrack of Album of 2006 and 2007" respectively. In addition to completing Battlestar Galactica's highly anticipated final season, Bear is currently scoring Fox's smash hit Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, the next chapter in the iconic Terminator franchise. He also scores Sci Fi Channel's highest-rated series Eureka. McCreary's feature film work includes Warner Bros.' Rest Stop (2006) and Twentieth Century Fox's Wrong Turn 2 (2007) starring Henry Rollins. Both quickly became the best-selling straight-to-DVD films in their studios' histories. Bear is proud to be among the handful of select protégés of late film music legend Elmer Bernstein (The Magnificent Seven, Far From Heaven ). Bear worked with Bernstein for nearly a decade, learning the tools of the trade along the way. Working from Bernstein's own hand-written pencil sketches, Bear completely reconstructed and re-orchestrated Bernstein's 1963 score for Kings of the Sun, starring Yul Brynner. Bernstein himself conducted Bear's Kings concert suite in performances around the world. Their collaboration allowed for the complete score to be available as a soundtrack album for the first time in forty years. Though he trained as a pianist, Bear has become a professional accordionist. He can frequently be found on stage, conducting his original music at his highly-anticipated Battlestar Galactica Concerts. He also served as musical director for the energetic Johnny "Vatos" Tributes to Halloween in 2005, 2006 and 2007, performing the hits of Oingo Boingo alongside many former members of the famous cult band. His unique combination of atypical instrumental background with rigorous classical training (degrees in Composition as well as Recording Arts from the prestigious USC Thornton School of Music) puts him equally at home writing for quirky, off-kilter ensembles or symphonic orchestras - often both at once. In 2007 he scored Smirnoff Vodka's global Bloodline campaign. His music has appeared in Frank Darabont's The Mist, as well as trailers for Heroes, The Other Bolelyn Girl and Law and Order. However, his greatest honor was having his Galactica score parodied in two pivotal episodes of South Park. He is represented by Soundtrack Music Associates. His turn-ons include science fiction movies and classic rock. Article from: <www. I've liked all the songs (yes, all two!) on the show so far... and I'd love to hear more to kind of change the mood, the style, whatever... once in a while.
These songs are from my new favorite group: Grace Potter And The Nocturnals. Fantastic! Such strong song writing and energy for a fairly young band. This is one goup you MUST see live at least once. They put their all into their concerts. Hey everyone it Krazy!
I just wanted to get peoples opinion to Bear McCreary's music in the series. Do you like it? What could be done to make it better? Do you think Bear McCreary was a good choice or do you think their could be a better composer? Have you heard of his music in Battlestar Galactica? Would you like to see a soundtrack in the future? Like maybe this year! What do you think of Bear's music compared to Battlestar Galactica or the Original Terminator Movies Soundtracks? Personnally I think his music is superb. But that is just me what do you FAN think? Check out his website and listen to some of his music here http://www.bearmccreary.com/ or at the bottom of the link page here - http://sarahconnor.wetpaint.com/page/Terminator+Web+Links Then when you there check out his ONLINE DEMO PAGE and hear some of his music
