The Heist
“Okay so what are we going to hit?” Derek asked. “Well I have two options. One there is the bank, that we could either rob during business hours or just steal the drop box during the night. Or two we could go after the armored car that collects the money from the stores on Friday.” Kilee said. “You have thought about this have you?” John teased. Kilee smiled “It’s not worth doing a job unless you can do it right.” They joked around for a few minutes then Cameron came in and said “The armored car would be the best. It is outside and we can pick where we do it. Plus it gives us more escape routes.” They all looked at her. None of them realized that she was even there. Then Derek nodded “I agree with her.” he said. “Okay well what do you think John?” Kilee asked. “Sounds good to me. I can get mom to take me down to the docks, maybe I can even get her out on a boat that way she can’t come after you for awhile.” They all laughed. “That would mean we will need to take the truck away from the water. Don’t need her to accidentally see us.” Kilee said. The next day Kilee and Cameron went shopping. They came around to the local stores near closing time and watched for the truck. Once they saw it they followed it’s route. The boys did the same the next night. They continued this for the entire week and discovered that the route changed depending on the day. They decided Monday’s would be the best because they would have the weekend money and the take would be bigger. John woke up Monday morning and hurriedly dressed. He went down to the kitchen to find Sarah there alone, as per the plan. He walked up to her and hugged her from behind. She laughed and turned around. “John what is this all about?” He grinned “Well I was thinking that you have been doing so much lately maybe you and I could take a day vacation. I have it all planned and I saved up the money for it.” “I don’t know John we still don’t know what threats might be out there.” “Mom we are never going to know every day what we will face. Especially with a life like ours. Come on it will be fun. Just the two of us. We haven’t done that in so long. Please. Before school starts? Come on!” he repeated when he saw that she might be weakening. Sarah laughed “All right but what are we going to tell the others?” “Oh come on mom I am the future leader of the human race I can tell them the truth. I want to spend some time alone with my mummy!” They laughed as Derek, who had been listening, walked into the room. “Wow it is way to early for such merriment.” he complained and winked at John when Sarah wasn’t looking. “John would like to spend the day with me, just the two of us.” Sarah said. Derek was about to take a drink of coffee when he stopped halfway to his mouth. “Wait we get a day off?” “Sure!” Sarah laughed. John couldn’t remember her being so happy. Let’s hope she doesn’t find out what they were planning! Derek said “Alright I can take Kilee out for the day, the entire day just the two of us?” “Um sure” Sarah said again “But that would leave Cameron alone.” “That’s okay we could just pull her chip and power her down so we don’t need to worry about her.” Derek said. Sarah glared at him. “No we won’t she can come with us.” John raised his eyebrows behind her back looking at Derek for help. “Mom really I just want it to be the two of us.” he said. Just then Cameron walked into the room. “I can go to the library.” she said “And do what re organized there dewy decimal system.” Derek smirked. Cameron glared at him “Research for 1984.” she said. “That sounds like a great idea.” Sarah said. Kilee walked into the room last and everyone turned to look at her. She looked around her then said “What do I have something in my teeth.” They laughed and Derek walked over and wrapped his arms around her “No John just got us the day off. He is doing a mom and son thing so we get to do our own thing.” Kilee smiled and cuddled into his arms “Sounds like fun to me.” Sarah looked around at them all. She had a small suspicion that they seemed to happy about this. Had it really been that long since they had a day off. Could they all be in burn out. Well if so this would be a perfect day to revive everyone. After breakfast and everyone got showered and dressed they all pilled into the truck. Kilee was driving and she dropped Cameron off at the library first, then Sarah and John at the docks. As they pulled away Derek pulled out the weapons from under the seat. “Well that went better then I expected.” “Yeah I know I guess John knows his mom better than we thought.” They went and picked up Cameron who had been monitoring the armored car office next to the library. Then the trio headed to pick up some other supplies. They were ready and waiting by 5 o’clock when the truck would be heading back to drop off it’s full load. They had washed out a bridge that was on it’s route and detoured the road a round to an isolated back road. Derek and Kilee would pose as cops to direct traffic. Cameron would then stop the truck in the middle of nowhere and Derek and Kilee would come around and get the loot.
They watched the truck come down the road and moved into place. The driver wouldn’t know the bridge was out until it turned the bend in the road, then it would be too late to turn around. Derek watched as the truck stopped his hand was resting on the handle of the gun in his holster. Kilee walked up to the driver “Sorry but the bridge collapsed you are going to have to take the detour.” The driver looked around then nodded as the passenger reached for the radio to call in their route change. Kilee had expected this and activated the jamming device she carried. The truck turned down the side road as Derek radio Cameron that it was coming. As the truck wound it’s way down the road the two guards were on alert but neither expected the sudden stop the truck made. The driver tried to push down more on the gas to no effect. Cameron had been hiding in a hole she dug under the road and as the truck paced she grabbed the back axel and pushed it up. Derek and Kilee came up behind it both with their guns drawn. “Okay just shut down the engine and toss the keys to my girl here.” Derek said. The driver did what they asked. Kilee caught the keys and left Derek to cover the guards. She went and unlocked the back of the truck. With Cameron’s help they unloaded the truck and placed the bags in their vehicle. Everything was going according to plan until one of the guards decided to be a hero. He jumped out of the truck and went for Derek. Derek, being the trained soldier fired without thinking. He hit the guard in the chest and he dropped a few feet away from Derek. The driver jumped out and went to his partner. Derek looked stunned “I didn’t mean to. He was suppose to stay in the truck.” Cameron and Kilee came around when they hear the gun go off. Cameron dropped down and evaluated the guard. She looked up at Derek “He’s alive but needs medical attention soon.” she stated. “I tried to pull the shot when I saw him. I didn‘t want to kill him!” Derek said. Kilee looked around her then said to the driver “Okay now this is a tricky situation. We didn’t want to hurt anyone and we are really sorry for your friend, we will send help. Jennifer take the him and put him in the back of the truck.” Cameron did as Kilee asked, Derek was still walking in circles muttering to himself. Kilee caught what he was saying as he passed close to her “All he had to do was stay in the truck.” Kilee then turned to the driver “What is his name?” The driver looked puzzled and Kilee came over to help him to his feet as she waited for an answer. “Malcolm Ripley he was to be married on Saturday. This was his last week to work before the big day.” he rambled on. Kilee patted him on the shoulder “Well maybe he can still make the wedding.” She replied. Then handed him the keys. “You will wait here and we will send help.” She left him sitting there then guided Derek back to their truck and climbed in Cameron was already sitting in the back with the money. Cameron had already called in for an ambulance. They headed back to the house. They would have to hide the money before John and Sarah returned.
At seven o clock John and Sarah walked into the house. They were laughing and looked like they had a great day out on the lake. Derek and Kilee did there best to hide the bad day they had and after John and Sarah told them every detail of their day, including John falling over board trying to fish, they took John out to the shed. Kilee told them what happened. “We need to do something for him!” John said “”Don’t worry we already hired someone to go down and pay his hospital bills with some of the money we took.” “Well that was nice of you since he got shot guarding it.” John said sarcastically. Derek grabbed him and shoved him into the all “I didn’t mean to shoot him.” He hissed. Kilee pulled Derek away from John “Alright that’s enough. We need to finish what we started.” They all sat down and counted up the money they hand left and decided how they would get the rest of the supplies. They stayed in the shed until Sarah called them all in for bed a few hours later.
