The Long Night
It was late when they finished getting the device apart and then they had supper, eating outside since the device covered the kitchen table. Once they were done it was almost 11 p.m. and they all went to bed. All but Cameron who sat on the couch. Once returning to the house Cameron had given her room to Derek and Kilee stating that since she didn’t sleep she didn’t need it. She hated the nights there was nothing to do. Kilee and John both ordered her not to touch the device. John wouldn’t let her use his computer any more either. She really freaked him out with that everything comment when he had asked her what she saw while plugged in to the computer before. So she sat in the couch starring at the blank TV and thinking about the day they had just had. While she was viewing her memories of the vault she got to thinking about all that stuff that was there. What is that was the start of it all. A big cooperation started sky net, what is that was the beginning? She knew that she was to help John and the others stop sky net, but if she stopped sky net she would stop herself from being built. It is what Sarah referred to as a catch 22. She ran every possibility through her programming and came up with two things she could do. One sit here and let the future develop as it will, or Two go do something about it. She walked down to Kilee and Derek’s room. Listening at the door she determined that they were both in deep sleep. She carefully opened the door and slipped inside. She knew the room well having passed the entire area countless times during other sleepless nights. She made her way over to where Kilee kept the bag of explosives. She knew how to build things other than the pipe bombs that Sarah made. Cameron carefully pulled the bag over her shoulder and eased back out of the room. Then she went back to the living room. She looked through the bag and found the supplies she needed and also took a few goodies that Kilee had in there. She was often surprised by what that particular human could do. It was like that in the future Kilee could recreate anything that she had seen. Cameron froze as she heard a floorboard creak. Judging by the weight placed on it and the location she knew John had a waken. She quickly stiffed the bag under the couch and resumed her position of starring at the TV. John’s voice sounded sleepily from behind her. “Is that really what you do all night?” She turned and looked at him “what else should I do?” he shrugged and went to use the bathroom then he called out ‘goodnight’ before retuning to his own room. She waited a few minutes then pulled out the bag and placed it on her shoulder. She took the keys to the car off the counter and went out. Turning back she scanned the building, all humans were safe and asleep. Nodding she climbed into the truck. Leaving one leg out she pushed the truck with her leg and steered in silently out of the driveway. To make sure the noise would not wake the light sleepers she pushed it to the corner before starting it and climbing fully into it. She drove back to the building that housed the vault. Scanning the entire building she found only one security guard in it. She climbed out of the truck with the pack and climbed to the roof. She laid the explosives along the roof and then she climbed down the elevator shaft and placed them at points where they would do the most damage. She got out on the vault floor, someone had cleaned up, then went into the vault. Everything was as it was before except the security guard that she had not counted on finding. He saw her at the same time she saw him, she reacted quicker. She through the bag at him, he caught it she said “Thank you” then hit him along the temple. He fell to the floor. She went over and checked his pulse. He was alive. Good she had followed John’s instructions again, not to kill unless you have no other choice. She then went about laying the bombs here that would do the most damage. On her way out she picked up the guard and placed him on her shoulders. She then continued her climb down the elevator shaft. It was a little more difficult because she did not want the human to fall, but she managed to get to the bottom having placed the explosives on each critical point of the shaft. She walked into the main lobby where the other guard was. He had quicker reflexes then his co worker. He had his gun out and pointing at her before he realized that she carried his friend. He laid the gun down and held up his hands. Cameron was in arms reach of him so she hit him in the face knocking him out as well. She pulled both men to safety then climbed back into the truck. She scanned the adjoining buildings but no humans where in any danger from the blast to come. So she detonated all the bombs at once. She sat there and watched the building crumble. She drove away as the sirens started coming a little too close. As she pulled into the driveway she looked over at her bulging back pack and wondered what Kilee would say about what it held now.
