Why bother getting into a new show on FOX
Dec 20 2007, 9:25 AM EST
All they will do is cancel the show 4 episodes in. And wont give it a chance to get going.

The evidence of how hard they're promoting the show indicates otherwise. They did similar to 24, which, in my opinion, doesn't deserve as much interest as a legitimate T-verse television series. And, Firefly Conspiracy aside, FOX generally cares only about what network execs always care for: ratings. Tell everyone you know to both watch it, then tell those new fans to repeat the process.

As long as Nathan Fillion isn't in the show it'll do fine, both of his Fox shows that I know about were canceled in the first season. That and besides what I've generally seen happen to sci-fi's that have been on fox I still think Terminator will probably do well on Fox.

Many critics who saw the private screening of the pilot said its really horrible. Likely Fox will cancel this right away. The show is expensive and it misled viewers to think its good based on the cool and hip posters and teasers but its quite the opposite.

I again fall back on my benchmark: if something as boring as 24 can stay on the air on FOX, anything can.

Half of them are so removed from any real audience they couldn't tell what was entertaining if it walked up and bit them. Many of the others are corporate shills looking to say whatever will get their show, publication, column etc. more ratings or readings. Others are tied down to political or social backing that skews every opinion they give. Very few legit critics are out there and even then your opinion might still be different. Watch the show and judge for yourself. Personally I think this looks as good or better than anything that's been released recently, especially compared to all the reality gameshow junk that we're being swamped with due to the writer's strike. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Look at Flash Gordon over on Sci-Fi channel, a series I didn't give a chance, and its still on. If that series stands a chance so do the Sarah Conner Chronicles, but then again its FOX.

Yah It is still Fox the network that has canceled every show on it I have ever watched after only one or 2 seasons and the reason I said 5 years ago I would never watch fox again. Now with the trailers I have seen online and the pilot that was posted on yahoo I am not sure if I should give this network another change.

This is Fox's last chance for me! I have been an avid watcher of Prison Break, House, Hell's Kitchen since those shows went on the air. I have every episode of Prison Break Tivo'd and also have not missed an epi of the other 2, BUT Fox has cancelled too many of the other shows that I have gotten into with no notice and no ending to the shows. If I get into this show and it gets dumped, Fox is history in my book. If Flash Gordon, Kyle XY and Saving Grace can stay on the air from other networks why can't Fox keep some of the low raters on until they can get a following. Most of the shows canned seem to require a somewhat higher IQ to follow and understand, so maybe the ratings are a little lower since there are less of us having those higher than adverage IQ's. Seems that Fox and the show sponsers have forgotten this basic fact; people with higher IQ's usually have higher paying jobs than most thus we have more disposable income to spend on what the sponsers are selling, isn't that really the name of the game. "All they will do is cancel the show 4 episodes in. And wont give it a chance to get going."[Cross posted, which I hate, but this seems to be a much more important place to say this.] This has been discussed endlessly on the internet, but there is no more reason to think that Fox will pull the show than anyone else would. See recent interviews with Joss Whedon about Fox. From the Hollywood Reporter: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3ifabb1526bf648422a2d53ac7422bd528 ""Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon is returning to television with "Dollhouse," a new sci-fi project starring "Buffy" alumna Eliza Dushku that has received a seven-episode commitment from Fox. "Dollhouse," from 20th Century Fox TV, is Whedon's first TV project since his 2002 Fox drama "Firefly." Search elsewhere and you'll find interviews with Joss about the deal. He has said that there is an entirely new crew running Fox and that he has no qualms about working with them, as opposed to another network. His praise for the new Fox is enthusiastic. "Many critics who saw the private screening of the pilot said its really horrible. Likely Fox will cancel this right away. The show is expensive and it misled viewers to think its good based on the cool and hip posters and teasers but its quite the opposite."I don't know how you came up with that--the reviews of the show have been fantastic. :) In this week's Entertainment Weekly, the show got a full page background pictorial on the table of contents, page 5, and an enthusiastic *4* page article on pages 50 to 54. That article included a gorgeous 2 page shot of our 3 heroes. Also note the coverage of the show in 3 different sections of last weeks TV Guide (pages 32, 47 and 80), and this weeks incredible coverage in TV Guide, listing it as one of the 4 "Must See" TV episodes on page *1*, and a review by senior editor Matt Rouch on page 18: Title: "It Takes a Tough Mama to Fight Off a Terminator" Highlighted: "Lena Headey... is awesomely capable of filling Linda Hamilton's running shows". Conclusion: "As famously promised years ago, the Terminator is back yet again. Hasta la vista, boredom." There have been many articles written about the show on the internet, with different conclusions, but the bottom line is that they don't really count for much. TV Guide and EW are the sources people listen to. Do you find this valuable? |

I saw this post and my initial reaction was to AGREE!However, with the props, the optimism, and the very established fanbase that the TERMINATOR franchise has, I have to say that the road really does look very bright for the future of this series. The FANS will make or break this series which is why our input is so crucial. Ha, no fate but what WE make. It's all going to come down to what was the marvel of the original TERMINATOR movies: Will the storytelling be there? If it is, I smell a great 4-6 seasons for what would be an outstanding complimentary DVD set to the series of films that is the TERMINATOR Franchise. Thoughts? Do you find this valuable? |
