Choosing a Robot/Cyborg...

If you could chose to have any robot or cyborg to do your work for you, (Rosie from the Jetsons, Asimov from Honda, Arnolds T-100, Cameron's model, etc.) Which one would you choose?

My vote of course goes to Cameron!

The T-X doesn't have the beauty factor going for it...

Man, the T-X would just be too dangerous. She'd stab you in the back at the first opportunity.

I'd probably pick Data, from Star Trek: The Next Generation. At least he'd be fun to talk to.

It was a toss up between the T-X and T-1000. Unlike the T-1000 it will be controlled by CPU, which would make it's programme much more stable and easy to adjust. And like the T1000, it can change it's appearance and emulate many people.

Waking up to a different girl each morning? As I said, why have one knife when you can have... :)

Yeah, and seeing as how "bendy" she was in T3, that would make for some interesting bedroom gymnastics.

Kristanna Loken did have that special...something in T3, didn't she? When I saw her in the Air Force uniform...Yowza.

I didn't have my mind in the gutter guys, if I were thinking on that level, I'd want something more like Sharon Valerii (Boomer, Athena, from BSG,) that could actually reproduce and didn't seem "mechanical". Then I don't want something like that, I want something that has that "mechanical" action to it so as to remind me what it is. Unlike some of you boys, I don't need a weak ass "swiss army knife" as you call it, I need something that can do one thing well, not many things half assed and master of none of them. (Hence the reason they are gone with the wind.)

Okay, okay. Take it easy. I got sucked into the whole sex angle. But I do realize what you are getting at.

Frankly, getting a Terminator to do my work for me, doesn't seem the best way to make use of its strengths. Actually, getting any mechanical sentient being to do my work for me smacks of slavery, and I would probably have a hard time doing so. I can hire a human servant, where he's compensated fairly, but a mech? Unless I was sure I could determine free will and all that, it would be a no-go.

See Blade Runner, or I, Robot for examinations of this phenomenon.

And next time, don't be so sensitive. This is an internet forum, for crying out loud. It always degenerates into sex eventually. We just got there quicker than usual! (Joke!)

Relax, as Frankie would say...

Didn't mean to be so "sensitive" as you put it, but I wasn't looking for those kinds of responses either. Sorry if I hit a "nerve" there, it wasn't my intention.

I've seen both of those movies you reference, (among many, many others including A.I., which was the best so far, in my opinion, at expressing what can happen if you took a machine for companionship.)

Granted I'm not too sure I'd want "anything or anyone" to do "my work" for me, I still live by the mantra, if you want it done right, do it yourself. Although, it would be nice to have something like one of these "androids" around, (although I really don't want or have a need for a fighting unit,) for picking up the "slack" that I'd rather not have to do anymore.

One that was "intelligent" enough to have conversations with and could also "think and learn" on it's own. As this series has demonstrated, (amongst the plethora of others,) however, I would only have one if it were possible to keep it's "growth" in check within it's programming. Having one that looks as excellent as Summer Glau, would only be "icing on the cake". Using her as a "home security" device would also be a major plus, something that looks not only as good as her but, also with the personality she's showing on the series, I don't see how you can get much better. Imagine a crook breaking into your house to see a "girl next door" looking babe and thinking, "it's just a chick, I can get past her..." only to find themselves with several broken bones and a concussion. If I chose to take her with me somewhere, (except for her gorgeous looks,) I wouldn't be getting "stares" from on-lookers wondering about "it". I also like the fact that she's still "learning" but, beyond "Data" stage.

Her knowledge of time-travel also appeals to me, as I too would like to "vacate" in other periods of time. Combine that with her "human preservation" sub-routines, and I can see taking her with me spelunking, Bajaing, or doing some other dangerous activities I like to do. Besides, what man doesn't want a woman he can "mold" to his liking?!? (I'm not chauvinistic here, women want the same from a man too...)

Another thing I like about her, is that she works more at my speed, I don't need something that works at "light speed" all the time, I'm more of a laid back person. (Notice how she doesn't run hardly anywhere, instead she's walking, she doesn't talk like she's only got 5 seconds left to live and has a 15 minute story to get out either.)

SpaceTrucker: you sure have a lot to say. Sure, I'd love to hang with Cameron. My wife probably wouldn't be so thrilled, though ;-)

Just a random thought that popped into my head just now: Do Terminators have to shower and brush up? Sure, they may not have sweat glands and all that, but won't they get all grimy and dusty? I wonder what kind of hygiene programming they've got put in. The Arnie in T1 got all rotten and stinky from his trashed flesh, but I guess Cameron can heal pretty quickly before the rot sets in.

Guess this turned out to be kind of a brain fart...but I think it is an interesting question, especially if you had to choose a model to hang with.

Yea and not much space to say it in this board system, not to mention no edit buttons...

Thankfully I don't have a wife anymore to worry about on that point. ;)

I was also thinking about their hygiene when I typed that, it would be a good question for someone to answer in one of the films/shows. Of course Arnold's model only lasting a couple days to a week at most, he doesn't seem to need one, (guy thing you know,) but since Cameron's been there much longer than a week, she's got to be kinda raunchy on the set by now... LOL.

Surely their "shells" are waterproof, though I don't recall seeing Cameron getting wet yet, wonder why this is? Although we do see her walking around without clothes and in different outfits, (wonder how she knew that women like to wear different things every 5 minutes?)

I would have no problem letting a 'machine' do some work for me. Having an ass-kicking terminator not even for the ass kicking. Just imagine when the car breaks down, "Hey tonight while I drink some beer and play x-box could you fix my ride?" "Bring me a beer." And of course," Walk the dog." Oops maybe that wouldn't work. Dogs don't seem to care for terminators. But maybe she could clean up all those doggie bombs in the back yard. See this is why skynet will create the terminators no matter what, lazy-ass humans!
:) lol

I'd choose the "Danger Will Robinson, Danger!" robot. But then that thing is sorta big and clunky to have in my room.. And the waving arms might freak me out when I'm sleeping. Maybe Dorothy from "Big-O" is a better choice.

Umm...What? Or, should I say, "WTF?"

How does a "peep" go about talking to your "BAD," my good sir?

Oh, well...

Peeps...mmm, Peeps. Sugary goodness in bright sunshiny colors. Tasty.

the R4 unit that Uncle Owen was gonna buy in Star Wars but he had a blown motivator....I alwasy felt bad for the guy. Id let him cut my grass or something....so he got some self esteem. That had to be kinda embarressing.
