The main thing for me is the development of Cameron as a person.

When I first read about a Terminator series, I was like "It could be very good but chances are they'll totally blow it." With T3 in mind, my skepticism is justified. Then I read that Summer will be playing the terminator and I was like "Ding, ding, ding, Jackpot! They couldn't have selected a better actress."

While I liked the Pilot, the episodes following didn't quite do it for me, but come "Queen's Gambit", I was totally hooked. A lot going on in that episode and the intensity continued throughout the rest of the Season.

But while Summer is what brought me to the show, it's by far not the only thing. I'm in it for all the characters and their interactions. All of them, even those in minor roles, are really great, thanks to good writing and the superb casting. A little bit of action and humor don't hurt either. Especially the humor.

I like all kinds of Sci-Fi, from Star Wars to Aliens, Predator and yes Terminator. I like the characters and its nice to explore their, growth throughout the series. When I heard that Summer Glau and Lena Headly were in it, couldent wait to see the show. I must be honest Cameron is my favourite character, I enjoy the way she learns, uses phrases, interacts with other people and of course kicks metal butt.
Now I'm sorry to say but my fav bad guy has to be the T-1000 no disrespect to Cromartie, but man the T-1000 was cool, Robert Patrick was awesome. (I'm going to start a petition to have the T-1000 resurrected)

I like the way the show also makes references to T2 especially in episode 7 The Demon Hand.

Yeah the the humor is also needed, hhey in the episode were Kester was standing looking/analyzing the snow glas ball, was that episode go on around christmas? because I would actually have kinda liked a episode(can still come in season2 I guess) were as some people have thought of an idea, of Cameron would like to try to kiss, most likely John, her seeing the other people kiss each other then one happens to stand under a mistletoe, her trying at home, and then kiss him there could explain a first kiss. anyway, how about the Kester/Cromartie guy, gets to fight Cameron, again but it being christmas, She has one of those soft red pointy hats, that santa claus, and his helpers also has. when Kester analyzing the hat possible threaths, I thought that could be fun, or anyway, Just to see how Derek would react to see Cam with it on.

No more like this, John comes into a room, Cam comes close to him, pointing up, he looks, then looks at Cam, Cam kisses John, Derek comes and seeing this, draging them away from each other, Derek yells what the heck are doing, to both of them, then Cameron points up to the mistletoe smilling mischiefiely

"Maybe this has been asked and answered, or maybe not...humor me! So, what is that you find so addicting about the T:SCC TV series in particular?"
I can tell you right away what it WASN'T - a continuation of T3! As Krazykaleb commented, it is the continuity with the T2 storyline that elevates T:SCC, a terrific choice of starting point by Josh Friedman.

Also, as steif.kopain noted, the complex, mysterious character of Cameron is a high point of the series. Where the TV series excells at is character development, unlike an action-packed multi-million dollar studio movie.

P.S. - hope that the Conner's maintain their "Baum" identity with it's Wizard of Oz references. I want to see the theme of the Tin Man (Cameron) finding a heart completed!

Is it the sci fi tech stuff that's got you hooked? The story line? The relationship (or potential one) between John and Cameron? Trying to tie it into the movies? You were a nut for the Terminator movie series to begin with?

What is it that's got you fanatically addicted to the show, and do you feel the same way about the movies? Let's hear it!"

To show we're TSCC fans, we need bumper stickers that say......."I got trunked stuffed by Cameron!"

:P

And yes I agree...Summer/Cameron is one of the reasons why I watch.........not the only one, but a major one :)

Yes, "the characters and and their interactions" They have put together something wonderfully and terribly human. The world is going to hell in a hand basket, fast. Despite that, there are people;Sarah, John and Derek, (and it looks like in season two Ellison, & Charlie:,) who won't just give up and let it happen. They don't just lay down and die, they try to fight the evil, against overwhelming odds. They also love, and they hurt and they hate what human beings are letting happen, while being hard as nuclear nails. They also make lunches for the kids, cook badly, have bad hair, crack jokes, sock people in the nose, and cry when someone gets killed.

The terminators to me represent a type of person, ruthless, political, corporate animals who can justify anything if it gets them what they want. They don't care who they hurt or destroy. They are real and they are trying to take over the world. I'd love to take a bazooka and blow them all to hell.

You see the best and worst of the human condition. Oh yeah, and all that kick butt action!

I second that. Cameron's development as a human being is the key vehicle through which we explore the human-machine relationship.

Actually, we are looking at the human-machine relationship from two sides:

1. The development of a machine (Cameron) as she evolves her humanity. This perspective is explored very well in the person of Cameron and, to a lesser extend, in Arnold Schwarzeneggers T-800 in Terminator 2.

2. The development a machine (Skynet) who is cruel and inhuman. This perspective is explored not only in the future Skynet but also in the person of Cromartie.

There are other ways in which the relationship is explored. Witness Andy Good's fascination with artificial intelligence in the present time before he's killed, and witness his horror (future self) in the building with Derek. What I like most is the fact that Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles explores humanity's relationship with machinery at so many different levels.

This story also explores humanity's relationship with itself. It is humanity that creates Skynet and that has also previously created the hydrogen bomb: making humanity the author of its own destruction. This is briefly touched upon in Terminator 2 with Sarah Connor's monologue at the end about a machine learning the value of human life. Again, this topic is expanded and built upon and explored from multiple perspectives in Terminator: The Sarar Connor Chronicles.

Thus T:SCC is more than just another action-adventure franchise. It's really a beautiful exploration of what humanity is, what human nature is, and what a machine is in relation to human beings. All of this couched in a fun-to-watch action-adventure setting!

Very few science-fiction and action-adventure movies and TV series can make such bold claims. Both Lena Headey and Summer Glau are terrific at painting this complex story through their characters!
