Why is Sarah the best fighter John knows?
Sep 4 2008, 12:47 PM EDT I wonder if we'll see WHY Sarah is the best fighter that future John knows. This is a man that has been in the war for years now, seen MANY men and women fight and die for the cause and he is claiming that his mother is the best fighter that he knows? And he knows everybody. So, John thinks Sarah is a better fighter than Derek? And Derek is all presumptious with Sarah and acting like he knows best. I'd really like to see what makes Sarah so special and different from the rest that makes her "the best." 4 days to go and just making conversation... Do you find this valuable? |

Sep 4 2008, 1:09 PM EDT I think that depends on what John understands under "fighter". Of course I don't think she has the efficiency or martial prowess of any number of battle hardened soldiers. But I think for John she has the right combination of willpower, persistence, and moral compass to fight Skynet the best way, to make the right choices. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

She'll pull back reassess, alter her original plan, rethink it and adjust to new circumstances. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Agreed - I think Sarah is the one that teaches John the importance of strategy, either directly or by her encouragement of John learning chess. That's important for John as the leader, tactics can be left up to those under his command. Do you find this valuable? |

FutureJohn: You know, I really miss my mom. As if my teen years weren't difficult enough, I think I'm going to send back a super hot Terminator and get me and my mom to jump 8 years into the future. She'll end up getting cancer still, but atleast she'll die after Judgment Day where it will be cold and dirty and even more sickly than her dying in a soft and clean warm bed in 2005. But to make things even more complicated, I think I'm going to send back my Uncle in time to hang out with us. Being the General that I am, I know all about my lieutenants and I know that Lt Reese's tactics are COMPLETELY different than that of my mother's so I know it will frustrate her to no end. It'll be fun for me though. Uncle Derek, hot Terminator, Mom, and me. It'll be fun. Something to look forward to at Judgment Day. Yeah, I miss my mom. Do you find this valuable? |

Sep 4 2008, 7:35 PM EDT I kinda like the idea that the fighting angle could certainly have more to do with the fact that she died of cancer. Add that to her devotion and tactical skills, he could certainly consider her to be the best fighter. However, with the new timeline, it does change a whole lot more. But still, Derek has weaknesses and all of their experiences haven't played out. Sarah could still own in the fighter department. Do you find this valuable? |

There's a reason they jumped over Sarah's death, but what is it exactly"Y'know, it wasn't about Sarah. It was about John. Saving John, protecting John, teaching John. Everything is about John. It's just that it's Sarah telling the stories (at least narrating in S1) and generally from her perspective. It may seem like false advertising, but that's how I look at it. And maybe that wasn't intended, but how it has ultimately translated. A lot of what the writers do seems to stand a few conventions on it's head. I mean, Star Trek is clearly Cpt Kirk's vehicle. But those were different stories told from his "log" and Kirk is an egomaniac. Sarah is a different kind of person, thus giving us a different kind of show, and isn't telling us the same morality tales. Plus it frees us and gives us the ability to see different stories from different viewpoints, but ultimately we can hang our hat on Sarah's good name. I do believe though, that there will be more Sarah centered shows if the season carries on. Do you find this valuable? |

FutureJohn knew that in 2007 was when Skynet was starting to be born and knew that's when he would have to stop it.. he could have let himself prepare 8 more years and when he was 24 fight Skynet. But, he wanted his mama there and that's why they time jumped. So it goes back to the original question, why John wants her there. Do you find this valuable? |

"Perhaps it's not just about John thinking about himself and the love of his mom. It may be that he thinks he needs Sarah in CAMERON'S life as well: a positive female roll model. She gives Cameron something special he CAN'T because he's a guy. She's the one who is always strongly in Cam's face about right and wrong rather than John with Arnie in T2. Cam's surrogate mother, in a sense. It seems like Future John cares about Cameron very much and probably wants the best for her. Why else would he confide so much personal information to her? He tells Cam things he never told Sarah, his own mother. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
