What are your thoughts about the differences between S1 and S2?
Sep 10 2008, 10:13 PM EDT
Obviously, Season 2 different from Season 1. Everything from the visual effects to the opening title sequence to the character development has radically changed. So what do you guys think of these changes? Do you like them? Do you hate them? Do you miss some things that were in Season 1 that are no longer around for Season 2? Samson and Delilah already had an extremely different feel from any of the first season episodes. For one thing this is the first episode to not have any voice over from Sarah and I also think this was the first episode that didn't have any funny moments or jokes (unless you count the toilet gag!) With the introduction of Catherine Weaver we can already see we're going to be jumping around to different characters a lot more often as well. Plus, we have new "big bad" running around and she's the CEO of a major AI company AND she's a T-1001!!! And of course everyone's attitudes are gonna be completely different! Granted, it's only been one episode, but I was hoping to hear what you guys thought about the changes you've see so far. Personally, I like it. The scope of the show seems larger and everything is just bigger and better! However, I somehow felt like the show was a little less personable without Sarah's voice overs. I didn't particularly like them last season, but I find myself a little less connected to her character for some reason. It's like she's no longer telling the story or something. Anyone else feel this way? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Well I'm worried about the introduction of Catherine Weaver and John's Girlfriend. All of the old characters were good characters. With new characters you have the potential for introducing bad characters, is all... However, the idea of a T-1000 model terminator is exciting.I missed Sarah Connor's voice overs. I really do. From last season, the parts about how she became obsessed with scientist, for example, really added a lot imho. I'm glad to hear about the drop of the highschool story arc. Highschool seemed to pale in importance to the reality of the situation, and an extensive story arc just because John is still hanging out in highschool to try to avoid attracting attention felt like a damper in the seriousness of show. I like the idea of the scope of the show being larger. I really like knowing that we see John growing more, and that there are still complex issues between the characters of Charley, Derrek, and Sarah. And of course, that we still have all the good stuff of Chromartie and Elison from last season makes me feel good. I'm glad Sarcissian didn't end up being a major villian or anything, just wouldn't have seemed right to have random human bad guy just because he's bad sticking around. Like before, I like the feeling that the show has a larger focus than that. Since it is only been one episode, that's all I can really say. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Catherine Weaver charater is a great addition, not just because she is a T1000, but because this character shows that Skynet is really fighting a war against the mankind instead of just sending random terminators to their doom against the Connors. This really adds a layer of depth to the inner workings of the Skynet (provided Shirley Manson can deliver that).Reily, on the other hand, is a bit too much by my impression...anti-Cameron is just begging for trunk time IMO. 2 out of 3 found this valuable. However, the idea of a T-1000 model terminator is exciting.Yeah, i'm also worried about the introduction of so many new characters. Specifically Riley. I dunno why, but I ALREADY don't like her and we haven't even seen her on screen yet! (I think i'm channeling Cameron's "robot jealousy" or something! ^^) I think it's because I know she's gonna drive a wedge between John and Cameron's relationship as well as John and Sarah's. That's what really bugs me! Catherine Weaver i'm kinda "eh!" about right now. Like, she's alright and she does have the potential to be interesting. I never heard of Shirley Manson before the show so I won't really be a fan of hers until she really brings this character to life. She did ok in Samson and Delilah, but I hope she does even better in later episodes. And I kinda DO miss Sarah's voice overs. It feels like something is missing without them! (Well we don't know for sure if they're gone for good yet. I bet they'll have them back in Episode 2!) 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Before she comes and ruins everything! :D I dunno, I just know i'm not gonna like her. I don't have anything against Leven Ramblin or anything I can just tell Reilly is gonna be one of those characters that's like "the OTHER woman." She's a plot device that's being used to wedge in between our main character's relationships! RAWR! I hate that! Wow, I should probably wait till she's actually ON the show before I start my hate parade. ^^ (I hope I can like her because it's so much funner to watch a show when you like all the characters!) 3 out of 3 found this valuable. "I'm a fan of the show being taken into its dark direction."The show was already pretty dark wasn't it? I really loved the bits of humor they put into each episode. I NEED comedy relief! That's why I can't watch Battlestar Galactica. It was SO depressing! I hope they keep that sense of humor this season. It looks like they will be judging by Cameron's "Girls are complicated" line. ^^ 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

It was SO depressing! This episode felt much darker and depressing than any episode from the prior season. Things just keep getting worse and worse. Ellison is in the difficult position of being on paid leave, yet knowing that the more he does his investigation, the closer Cromartie will get to the Connors. One of the Connors has taken another human life. Cameron has proven that her chip can be corrupted. A T-1000 has arrived and is in possession of the Turk. The home is burned down and gone, along with the Baum family that people had gotten to know. And we all know that it is only going to get worse. I'm curious if the writers are going in the direction of the current Batman films series, which is that things will hit rock bottom and hopefully make a turn for the better (escalation.) 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Yesh! Dark and dry humor! Oh, and we need pancakes. T:SCC cannot survive without PANCAKES! At the end of Samson and Delilah when they were eating sandwiches, I was like WTH? Where are the PANCAKES!? Who cares if they were in a church after a REALLY long day with no home supplies? Man now I want some pancakes! 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

I think that is going to be a good change in the show. as for the girl riely will wait and see,i THINK IT WILL SHOW US WHAT CAMERON REALL Y...oops ...caps..... really feels about john, maybe some jealousy? I also like what they are going to do with john this season. the voice overs I dont miss , but would be ok at end of some shows, like one where cameron was dancing. but overall the show did seem differrent, but hopefully not too different as S-1 was good. It's to early to compare them. We don't know how Riley will affect the chemistry of the crew.

"It's to early to compare them. We don't know how Riley will affect the chemistry of the crew. "I know. lol I'm totally being irrational about the Riley thing. I think i'm just worried. I keep hearing stuff from interviews and what not that make me think I won't like her. She'll probably bring an interesting dynamic between all the characters even it it is negative. And I realize it's early, but I just wanted to start this thread anyway so we have it from the beginning! Plus, we already know a lot about how Season 2 is gonna be different anyway from interviews and such. Do you find this valuable? |

Without *any* malice towards others opinions, I think it's too soon to judge season 2 since we've only had the one ep. and a couple of clips. From all the interviews I've read and seen, I like idea of the new direction they're taking it and did take in the first ep of season 2.As for Reilly, having never seen the character on screen, I do like the idea of her. I think John needs some normalcy in his life. And what's wrong with giving him what any hetro 16 yr. old boy wants? A human girlfriend. (I'm so not a Cameron/John shipper.) Can't wait for more episodes. I'm so looking forward them! 2 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

Ok, now that it's been another week... Anybody got anything to say? :) It seems like there's a lot of "mehs" going around for the second episode and there seems to be a split on people liking or hating Riley and people liking or disliking the "new" Cameron. I thought the second episode was good. Not my favorite, but it was still good. It had its moments. :D I LOVE the new Cameron (of course i'd love Cam no matter what! ^^) and Riley i'm just ok with. I don't hate her, I don't love her. She's just there for now. I do miss the Sarah voice overs, and I still can't used to the "Scary Voice Over Guy" that says the credits. The show feels different now... I don't think it's necessarily a bad difference. People shouldn't judge so fast! I think everything will come together with more episodes. I'm really excited for episode 4! :) I mean COME ON! Samson and Delilah was AWESOME. Automatic for the People may not have been the most memorable episode ever, but it wasn't bad. I consider it as more of a transitional episode than anything. Kinda like Gnothi Seauton was in Season 1. (I really liked Gnothi though. I think it was one of my fave episodes last season!) And that's ok 'couse u can't please everyone. But the situation after two ep. of S2 completely different. It's about 50/50 now. And i think that's very importent!!! That means that something went really wrong! What do you think? 5 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

And that's ok 'couse u can't please everyone.Yeah, I can totally see the ambiguity going on in the forum lately and I totally agree that it's a 50/50 split on who liked the new episode and who didn't. I think these kinds of episodes just come along once in awhile. Keep in mind this doesn't mean all of Season 2 will be like this. I remember coming to the board after Samson and Delilah aired and i'd say 95% of the people on this forum liked it. (A lot of people say Firefly had no hiccups during it's run but i wouldn't say that's true. A lot of people actually didn't like episode Heart of Gold that much and it's a lot of people's least favorite episode. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't that great. It was kind of like a filler/transitional episode much like Automatic for the People was.) Also, people inherently don't like change. So when people see the differences in Season 2 they automatically don't like it because they are used to Season 1. So I don't think anything really went WRONG. More like people are trying to adjust to the changes and determining whether they like them or not. The changes in this particular episode (it seems) just rubbed people the wrong way. (I think it's mainly because they changed the things that people loved in the show before like Cameron, or the serialization, the voice overs, etc.) People just need to time to adapt! :) And yes, it is an important observation. If things keep going like this and don't stabilize things do NOT look good for T:SCC's future. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Like her very slight smile when she beats those security guards at pool and wins their money. or when the lady in the nuke plant informs that that 2 janitors are out with personal problems. or her being pissed off at john for fixing her, or her fear of going bad again "I dont know, will I?" maybe she will go bi-polar :) now wont THAT be scary!
