A TOAST to the arguably the greatest TV villain of all time.

A villain who got everyone rooting for him despite him being evil,
A villain who got everyone got chills from watching,
A villain who has got everything a big screen villain would have, and more!
A villain Uncle Bob iconized by in the '80s with the famous "F*ck you, @$$hole!"
A villain Robbie Patrick broadened further telling us to "Get out!"
Perhaps matching even Uncle Bob's "I'll be back!"
Garrett "Cromartie" Dillahunt, you iconized the ultimate Termie baddie of the new Century with the now cult phrase:

"Thank you for your time"

Applause! Applause! A TV villain who is on the same level as the Joker himself. Now, that would be something worth waiting for!

Thought reviving this thread was way overdue. Here's hoping for season 3 and more of John Henry. May he be as twisted, evil, and hilarious as Cromartie! BTW if you haven't seen The Assassination of Jesse James, Garrett was the best thing in it (and I thought the whole thing was pretty good). Be sure to check him out. Thank you for your time[sick little Cromartie smile]. Do you find this valuable?

I'm actually getting huge hopes up for what John Henry could turn out to be.
Hell, if done right, he could become an even more compelling, interesting, deep and mysterious character than Cameron herself.

I mean, there are still loads to be found about Cameron, but deep down she is still a terminator, and we're pretty familiar with that already. We know the basics about terminator thinking and acting, even though Cameron is very much special, I know.

John Henry is questioning himself about the value of human life and wether or not he's a God's child, and he knows Weaver is not human. Wow!
He's not a terminator, he's a fully new and unknown AI, only. in a terminator body.

So, I want to see more! Much more!

i really enjoy him as cromartie. and i agree he could be interesting as john henry, but part of me wishes that he could still be cromartie, all of his little quirks made him so enjoyable to watch. and now he is playing someone else, which kinda sucks. Do you find this valuable?

Arnold Schwartzenegger and John Cameron defined an iconic image of terminators as remorseless killing machines. That image worked well in their single-theme theatrical releases, but would have been a disastrous failure if extended in an ongoing series like TSCC.
I think most fans of the show will agree that both Summer Glau & Garrett Dillahunt added immeasurably to our enjoyment of the show by elaborating Schwartzenegger's archetype without violating its essential limitations. That's hard enough to do for any role. In the context of the terminators it's a truly formidable challenge. I suspect that the creators of TSCC recognize Dillahunt's ability and will try to incorporate him into future episodes, even though his original Chromartie character has (presumably) been destroyed. Although it's tempting to endorse rimatz's lament about Chromartie, I think Mr. Dillahunt will be able to engage us just as ably in another guise. I look forward to seeing what that might be.

arnold did NOT portray them as remorseless killing machines. t2 was the story of the development of arnolds character from a killing machine into something that truly understood the value of human life at the end.

Yes, and no. In T1 there was NO development beyond "remorseless killing machine". In T2, he only stopped killing because John ordered him not to, and only finally started to understand why humans value life at the very end. IMO, Cromartie is like T1 Arnold, and Cameron is more like T2 Arnold.

cromartie developed faith in ellison being the one to bringing him to the connors, even taking out another terminator who was trying to take him out. i think that makes him different than t1 arnold

Ellison was just part of Cromartie's strategy to get to teh Connors. It has nothing to do with emotional growth. Stop reading into this stuff so much.

wasnt saying it was emotional growth. saying he wasnt a mindless killing machine. arnold would just kill everyone along the way in t1, cromartie allowed people to live as long as they could possibly help him on his mission or were not threats. he let jodie live, didnt kill the unarmed guy in the police station, etc.

Why do you hate Cromartie? I thought he was a pretty good villain.

I thought we were supposed to hate the villain. Ooops, my bad. Let me change that:::: I love Cromartie! Love him! (Thanks, I'm on the right track. My chip is glitching a bit.)

But seriously, Dillahunt is great. Saw him in "No Country for Old Men". See the TSCC Macros 2 page. http://terminatorwiki.fox.com/page/TSCC+Macros+2
I dedicate the ones (multiple) I've done with Dillahunt in them to this thread. You can thank me later.

"arnold did NOT portray them as remorseless killing machines. t2 was the story of the development of arnolds character from a killing machine into something that truly understood the value of human life at the end."
If you're going to paraphrase something I've written, you should try to do it accurately. I asserted that Schwartzenegger and Cameron "defined an iconic image" of the terminators. That's precisely what they did and actors - including Arnold himself - have been playing against that image ever since.
The "development" of Arnold's character in T2 was IMO, a misguided failure culminating in the burlesque final sequence, when an emasculated Terminator gives a "thumbs up" sign, as he's lowered into the molten metal. To Summer Glau's credit, she has largely rolled back this mistake with her wonderfully nuanced portrayal of Cameron in the television show. [Anyone who doubts Cameron's basic disregard for the "value" of human life should rewatch the sequence several times in which she executes the computer thieves in the bowling alley!]
Of course not every fan of the show appreciates Summer's deft touch, as evidenced by the number of posts in support of a sophomoric "young robots in love" approach to her relationship with John. From my initial post in the "Avoiding the Obvious" thread until now, I've opposed such treacly sentimentality, which would likely doom the series to immediate - and deserved - cancellation.
