I'm getting somewhat dismayed...
Dec 1 2008, 8:18 AM EST
...with the writer's interpretation of John Connor, both the present and the future John's. I've been a terminator fan since watching the first two films when I was a little kid, and I always imagined Connor, especially in the future, as heroic, brave, and a man of the people. Kyle even said "I'd die for John Connor". I think, by now, in SCC, John should be the hero of the show, not some emo kid, and the small references of future John, about him being elusive, aloof, making poor decisions, being in love with a machine (or whatever the hell is going on), all this to the point of him even having defectors (Jessie and Riley) is just totally screwing with what John Connor, or rather, the legend of John Connor, is all about. I find it very dissappointing. Also, I think that a heroic John, as a central character, is exactly what the show needs. Sure, I like the show as it is, but as I understand it, it's struggling with ratings. I think it'd be just as good, and could still be just as intriguing and deep IF John was kickass, rather than being a troubled kid, he needs to be a hero, a fearless leader, someone for the teenage fans to either look up to (guys) or swoon over (girls). Moody adolescents don't make good TV, especially when they're supposed to be the legendary John Connor. I'd lead a resistance better than this pathetic squirt!

I disagree. It needs to be a journey. I can't take a teen hero seriously.

Perhaps, but I'd hate to see him being whiney and pathetic for much longer. He's useless at the moment. What do you think about what they're doing to the legend of future John? Is it really necessary to sully him like this? They're making future John seem like the dumb kid we see in the present day SCC. |

And anyway, isn't he supposed to be about sixteen by now? There have been real life war heros that age in the past!

This is the one flaw in the show. Having John as a 16-year old really handcuffs the writers, and limits what they can do with the character. Assuming TSCC runs 3, 4, 5+ years, it will be a long journey if John ages in real time. |

"And anyway, isn't he supposed to be about sixteen by now? There have been real life war heros that age in the past!"They way he is now is completely logical to me. |

"What do you think about what they're doing to the legend of future John? Is it really necessary to sully him like this? Apart from a few vague things in the movies we have no idea what he is like. There is no legend of John Connor other than a brief description of some things he did. Also, this is the Sarah Connor Chronicles. John is not the hero yet. His time is not now, it's in the future. |

You are seeing John show signs along the way. Seems like every episode there is a situation where makes a decision, takes charge, or otherwise shows leadership. Also, it is the "Sarah Connor Chronicles", her story, her perspective I think.

I agree with you in some ways, but remember, John is a 16 year old kid and only a few years removed from being the brat that he was in T-2. I'd say that he's made quite a bit of progress, though yes, he still has a long way to go.

I think you're going off of Jesse's point of view. She's a traitor. She's going to color everything to justify her actions to Derek. It was just a few weeks ago that Derek told John "we all die for you". It sounded like he meant it.

"And anyway, isn't he supposed to be about sixteen by now? There have been real life war heros that age in the past!"Well, John has a lot of personal conflict right now that I'm sure most young war hero's didn't have to deal with. He's supposed to lead mankind in a fight against the machines, right? But what kind of leader can he be if he can't even fight the machine that's in his heart? Oh, yes, he's trying really hard... even shoots out his best poker face... but it's not even a good fight. She's killing him. I'm sure he's been thinking about it and that's making him a little looney. How many real life war heroes had to deal with falling in love with the enemy? |

That is why Jesse needs to destroy Cameron, and John can finally harden up and start teaching people how to smash those metal motherf***ers into junk! |

Josh has addressed this question in the past. You can't have 4 alpha males running around at the same time.

"Alpha males? "As in, you can't have 4 leaders, running around. Someone's got to take charge, and the others have to follow. Sarah's the only who usually takes charge of a situation, since this show is about her. |

"Exactly. That is why Jesse needs to destroy Cameron, and John can finally harden up and start teaching people how to smash those metal motherf***ers into junk!"Accurate! And the Best Solution for Jesse is to ORDER to a girl to seduce John! Cameron "tries to kill" Riley, John kill Cameron! Wonderfully! :) But IF John FOUND that he was tricked and ALL things is a BIG LIE, which participated also his real uncle? I think John will get to trust ONLY in Machines! Jesse's game is very dangerous! She can be to obtain the Exact Reverse Result! |
