"OK ... I truly, truly believe that Jesse and Riley's plan is to keep John away from Cameron. It makes the most sense. But, let's play pretend for a moment. What if they are talking about Sarah? What if, because of the time jump and/or Sarah's preknowledge of her death, Sarah manages to beat the cancer and is still alive in the future. What if John grows into a leader, but still under the shadow of his mother? What if he never learns to stand on his own because Sarah continues to control him? In a way, that also fits what Jesse says about John's behavior in the future. I have no faith in this theory (not even sure I really like it), but I find it an intriguing alternative."
When Jesse's intentions were first brought into light, she called the Connor-family enemy "It ... metal!"

Sarah isn't exactly an it or metal.

Jesse hates Cameron. =P

We don't know how much we can believe from Jessie.
We also don't know the whole story on Cameron's mission.

So I'm re-watching S2E9, and suddenly I understand this better:

James: "Who taught you how to play chess?"
John Henry: "I did."

I thought John Henry's answer was odd, but it's absolutely correct. John Henry was bootstrapped from Turk. He taught himself in the sense that John Henry inherited the knowledge from Turk when he assumed the John Henry persona.

This would be freaky if it wasn't obviously planned: Sarah dreamed about it in S2E9. Someone who looks exactly like Cromartie (John Henry) received a turtle (Turk) from someone made of metal (Catherine).

The Cromartie-getting-the-tortoise dream scene means John Henry will play a role in providing compassion to the Terminators. The tortoise represents the birth of compassion, "birth" because the tortoises were in a baby nursery setting. And of course we all know turning over a tortoise is symbolic for compassion.
