Hey guys, just a reminder (before it happens) that discussion of weapons as they relate to the show are okay, but if it goes off on a tangent , I gotta start clipping... Thanks!"

I hope nothing bad happened to you.

I have of course had the same Ideas... That's how it is in REAL Life... But a 9mm...? A larger Caliber would - ofcourse - be better... Make you feel even more safe... And frankly: I think it was just BLIND LUCK, that she managed to hit "Bulls Eye"... And of course it'll distract the Shooter, when being hit... But I really do think that SkyNET in that matter would've compensated for this, but strangely enough they don't make use of it... We've seen Cromartie run and turn quick, so...

And as I wrote: Small Firearms... (like the small 9mm)...

BTW... I found this Article that might be of Interest (but you probably already know it):

"... The Desert Eagle is one of the few pistols that can be switched into a variety of different calibers with simple replacing of the barrel and bolt. Featuring the option of making Desert Eagle 50 ae pistols, Desert Eagle 44 or 357 in a matter of minutes makes this firearm very versatile. Also considering the advancement in power, the Desert Eagle is not particularly larger then standard full sized pistols. ..."

9mm is popular because it allows for a large magazine capacity. .45 ACP allows for around 8 rounds per magazine, and the higher the caliber, the less ammo per mag.

Running out of ammo against a terminator would not be a good thing.

But if you look at the Joules energy on a 9mm round, it is wimpy. Take a S&W500, put armor piercing rounds in it, and you can blow a hole the size of a house in a Termi.

Yea, the 9mm has almost no energy behind it. unfortunately, the Connor's don't have AP rounds readily available to them.

I've always been curious how effective something like a .357 magnum round would be against a terminator. Obviously not enough to kill one, but it'll still pack quite a punch against one.

XUBU,
We've also seen Cromartie miss John when he really shouldn't have.

Sarah might be carrying a 9mm for the same reason that many choose that caliber in real life: it's the most power the individual shooter can reliably control and recover for repeated follow-up shots.

Cameron should be able to control a .45 ACP, but perhaps chose the Glock 9mm for greater magazine capacity. If one can accurately place one's shots, a single round of 9mm can do the job, and there's room for more rounds in the mag.

On the other hand, Summer Glau isn't a very big girl, and perhaps SHE can't handle the .45 or any of the other big ones.

I would like to see John and / or Derek carrying something like an Olympic Arms OA93 .223 pistol, or .357 SIG (high velocity) with penetrator ammo (banned, but I'm sure Law Enforcement or military have them) Something like this should do sufficient damage to stop a terminator, with the right shot placement.

The key here is high energy + armor piercing. The writers could assume you could insert tungsten spears in the slug as armor piercing modifications to an S&W500 round, then you'd have a readily available Termi penetrator. If they just used a standard .44 or .357 Magnum, those bullets are also of the soft-metal type, made for soft targets.

You're right. We've seen Derek use a Desert Eagle on a T-888. It was firing .50 AE rounds, based on the 7 round mag capacity if his weapon. The T-888 just absorbed the bullets like it was nothing.

While designed for softer targets, I wonder if hollow point rounds would make any difference?

Hollow points spread too much. I'd surround a high density tungsten spear with soft lead, and the tungsten spear has a chance to penetrate. The writers could convince us of that. Of course, getting too much technical stuff in a fictional show may not be politically correct, making people think its lessons on weapons. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

When engaging a Terminator, you need maximum penetration.
Hollow points are "going the wrong way". They're designed NOT to overpenetrate.

If Kyle Reese were around, I'll bet he could construct some EFP (explosively formed projectile) rounds, using common household cleaning products. (grin).

not a huge gun guy, sorry if this is off base. but wouldnt hollow points tear through the flesh better and let other shots get to the metal skeleton quicker?

I was thinking the same thing.

here is a good video comparing a regular round to a hollow point.

The TSCC writers should give Summer a light plastic version of the S&W500, add special effects of muzzle flash, and show her rapid firing rounds off with no visible recoil (Termi strength). When a person fires a real one, they practically hit their own heads with the massive recoil. Very dangerous for people to shoot one of those in real life. Do you find this valuable?

Nope. If you use penetrators, the first shot does the work just fine.
If engaging a Terminator, you don't want to be using rounds that mushroom out in flesh or clothing, you want every round to dent the endo, work harden and fracture it.
