"and hey, maybe Josh didn't want to get involved with cross promotion because it'd get complicated, and he figured it was bad enough just trying to deal with one timeline, and not have to worry about shoving hints at another one in there as well. It's not a matter of dumbing it down. It is a matter of CONSISTENCY: The show is not about Sarah protecting her son or trying to stop Skynet. It's not about John growing into becoming the great saviour of humanity and it it's not about the very interesting new protector cybord sent back from the future. So she tuned OUT. I get refreshments and reminders to let her know when a fight scene comes on - and this from a babe that digs sports and WANTS to go to see blockbuster action movies. So she knows when something is being palmed off on her that is less than what it could be. Like the "Dune" movie after I made her read all three books in the trilogy. Or "Battlefield Earth." Look I LIKE their clever ideas. I just want them to fit in with what we KNOW Terminator is all about. But their too busy being clever writers to lay the good, solid foundation this series needs. Or maybe their victims of the writer's strike, or the suits and Fox intervening. I don't know. I just know that something is not quite right, and the show IS suffering, because IF it gets cxl'd then the whole thing is a moot point - and we may NEVER know what the hell Josh was trying to do. So the first priority for Josh AS the EP is "the show MUST go on." If that means being a whore and calling JCam and McG and the governor to do mock PSA's to build up interest and viewrship, DO IT! And the NEXT step is make sure you give viewers the BEST of the Terminator-based world that you can, not a bunch of NEW stuff they don't understand with very little of the stuff they do. That really doesn't work. Do you find this valuable? |

"It's not a matter of dumbing it down. It is a matter of CONSISTENCY:I think the B9 is going to be a lot more close to home, regarding what we "know" about the Terminator universe. You are correct, they've done a lot of dancing around with miscellaneous side stories and new characters. Granted, plot development and character development are great, but like you said, we should've had more of the Terminator "flavor" to go along with this new twist. I think these next 9 are going to be similar to what we've seen in S1. And I meet you half way on the abundance of resources at Josh's disposal. As was quoted, there could be a lot of strings attached with cross promotions, and it might get menacing having to throw hints or bits in here or there regarding T4. However, I think we know it's going to be close regarding S3 (hoping), and how many opportunities arises for a show and movie to benefit from each other like this, given release dates and whatnot. On one hand, I understand Josh's point of view, but on the other, if he has exhausted all resources and possibilities; it may be worth looking into to ensure the survival of the show (IF it is in danger - he could be waiting it out to see how the first few episodes of B9 do). It IS a VERY unorthodox idea, crossing like that, even if the same company is making it (are they both WB?). But interesting nonetheless. Do you find this valuable? |

">"Or at least have TSCC piggyback on T4 so ensure the TV show doesn't FAIL, which would be bad publicity right before the (sure to be a hit) movie comes out.Too much *suspense" in my view, not enough *substance.* Unfrotunately, the last version of anything T was T3, which left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. And the only reason for coord with McG is he controls the future of the T verse. And I thought T4 was coming out in May, not the summer. Either way, its value is to boost interest in the TV show when it comes back (surely there will be summer reruns?) so their is carryover into the new fall season. Like Olympic Dream Teams boost fans for the NBA. I think Josh thinks he's in competition with McG and feels he shouldn't have to worship at the shrine of JCam. But then, these guys may have been assholes to him, or just ignored him, which is an insult. We don't know. I'm an business marketing analyst by trade, so it's hard not to mull over this stuff: how you can be on a major network, with one of the best action franchise names in modern media (decades old), write some of the best stuff on TV, and have a problem with ratings to the point you're in danger of being cancelled. I think the reason is bc Josh has not connected enough with those other major players in the Terminator Universe; hasn't laid the plots out to they fit within that overall flow (neatly enough); and hasn't built his franchise upon the natural connection between his major characters (Sarah, John and Cameron) nearly enough. >I think Josh thinks he's in competition with McG and feels he shouldn't have to worship at the shrine of JCam.Huh? WTF? Josh has nothing to prove! Neither to McG nor James Cameron. And why are you saying that McG controls the T-verse?! Neither him or Friedman does. Why McG would have an upper hand on Friedman for this?! Do you find this valuable? |

"Damn I look at this McG filmography, that doesn't look good for T4 :s"No it doesn't. But Bale made him do a complete re-write as a requisite to sign on. Bale is passionate, driven, and intense. I think he made it his business to emrege himself in the Terminator Universe - as laid out by the same things we saw and experienced in the other movies, and his WON'T be an alt timeline from what has happened previously, but a smooth extention of it that logically makes sense to the viewer. I think he took it upon himself to make sure that the viewer could flow with T4 and enjoy it and not struggle with what was going on and have to remember details from several half developed threads at once - and no answers to any of them. I think he spanked McG and made him do what NEEDED to be done, to make an epic T$ movie, that will stand on its own merits. I think he would have made TSCC be more serialized, with stand alone arcs that one could follow - with main threads that progressed in a logical manner. I think he would frown upon trying to "surprise" the viewer at the expense of story continuity. I think Bale will bring the best out of McG Do you find this valuable? |

Fans were let down by T3, and TSCC has some of the best writing on TV in any genre! But to act like T4 doesn't exist and not try to be mentioned in the same conversations - esp when its gonna be talked about in the media a LOT - DURING the time your critical B9 ar running (NOW!). I don't get that. I know as a pro spin dr. I could do it, and most good PR/mktg ppl could do this as a "dream job" assignment. Do you find this valuable? |

""In the end we will just have to see how it turns out."I have faith. I feel that the show exists in a little box of time after T2 and before anything else, especially T4. Josh can do anything he wants inside the box. He has introduced a lot of unresolved plot lines that bothered me and sounds like you, too. But this is the discord that sweetens the melody when everything comes together. This is the art. After everything comes together, I trust you will feel better and we will see that the show hasn't had to move out of its box either, and it plugs in where it should in the T-verse. I hope your current unhappiness will be a testament to his art when the season is over. Maybe you'll look back and say, "Damn, that all worked out so well, better than I expected." Personally, I had been greatly frustrated with all the unexplained elements of the show. To my relief, I have worked out for myself one way that everything can resolve consistently, Not saying I know what the writers have put down, but at least now I feel I can rest, inasmuch as I know that satisfying resolutions exist. I have faith that they have chosen one to show us in the back nine. Hang in there, baby. Do you find this valuable? |

">I think Josh thinks he's in competition with McG and feels he shouldn't have to worship at the shrine of JCam.I said McG controls the future of the T-verse. This is where T4 is set. I don't think he's gonna do any backstory and have new actors play present day characters. So Josh controls the present. JCam controls the past - because it is already done (and we're all tryign to erase T3 from our memories). I think Josh having nothing to prove IS the problem: he's so busy proving he's got knowing to prove he's not giving us enough of the Terminator "flaovor" - to quote GregTheVirus Do you find this valuable? |

"how you can be on a major network, with one of the best action franchise names in modern media (decades old), write some of the best stuff on TV, and have a problem with ratings to the point you're in danger of being cancelled."Most pertinent question... ever (as far as TSCC is concerned). I've been on my little 2 foot stool since day 1 of "The Real World" tooting on my horn. REALITY TV HAS RUINED THE CONCEPT OF GOOD TELEVISION!!! It's the same mind numbing crap, wrapped in a different color of tin foil. People making a mockery of themselves and others, overly emotional, over dramatized bull crap. People nowadays are more interested in other people's efforts and watching others live their lives, or others try and find their true love, rather than doing those things for themselves. I watched American Idol once, only to see that Simon character belittle a performer for his LOOKS (real tough), and coming to the realization it's all about ratings; and the sad and absurd truth that reality tv, in all of its absurdity, is moreso a reflection upon our society than the shows themselves. I guess I see it as zombified entertainment with 0 originality. Oh well, due to it's popularity, perhaps I'm missing something. I do know this however, the SUBSTANCE of conversations I've heard from friends regarding the aforementioned are simplistic. Now, I'm not being condescending, but I like TV that makes me think. I have never been on a forum, from a show, that provokes such in depth thought and conversations about time travel, physics, the nature of humanity, mechanics of love, and empathy, what makes us human (Cameron's constant evolution challenges what we know of ourselves), etc. TSCC does this, and in my opinion, that's damned good television; and it's sad that there aren't much much more with an appreciation, dedication, and most of all inquisition that we all, as this TSCC community, share. "I agree on both counts. You've seen the documentary Zietgeist? But I'm aware they have multitudes of ones calling into question the fundamentals of our cultures. If it's not the Addendum one, please tell me which, because I'd like to know. Here's what I've seen: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7065205277695921912 And to those that haven't seen it, I recommend it, it's an interesting and thought provoking piece.
