The "I was doing something productive when I ended up here" THREAD
Feb 24 2009, 11:43 PM EST
Yeah, I SHOULD be doing my HW.I should be watching the Obama address and writing a brief paragraph about it. I SHOULD be reading a short story for AP English. I SHOULD be doing my AP Stats HW. And yet... I'm here. :D I definitely don't think i'm the only one that has something more productive to do than be here. :P I figured it'd be nice to have a random thread about light, happy, things to get away from the negativity for awhile. So... what should you be doing right now? What happened in your daily life today? Anything interesting? Well I had a few interesting things happen today... 1) I got my Winter Formal pictures! Yay. 2) My friend (who I talk to about T:SCC with all the time but doesn't watch it) had a CRAZY T:SCC dream! lol, it was freaking hilarious! Apparently, my friend had a dream last night where John and Cameron were in bed (not like THAT mind you). Then then woke up... and John turned into this giant crazy monster and Cameron transformed her arm into this giant wirey weapon thingy and blew him up. Yeah. :D It's probably my fault considering how much I talk about T:SCC to her! ^^ 3) Swim practice was canceled! This was so awesome. There was a random power outtage midday during school, and supposedly when the power came back on, it blew up some pipes in the pool which broke the heater and the circulation in the pool! Plus there's late start day tomorrow! YAY! 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

"OMG I LOVE THAT BOOK!Oh, don't get me wrong, I totally love it (and I'm only 30 pages into it!). I watched the movie adaptation in History class and thought it was pretty good (minus the really crappy acting, but whatever) so when I got the chance to pick a novel to do for lit study, I thought that this book wouldn't be a bad place to start. Sidenote: Kemmerich dying in the 2nd chapter made me, uh, tear up. >_> Do you find this valuable? |

I never did get to see the movie of it. The book IS pretty dang depressing, but it's just so good! And it's ok to tear up. ^^ The ending really got to me from what I remember. Hmm, maybe I should reread it... We just finished Brave New World in English and we're reading The Name of the Rose (by Umberto Eco) next. So far though, I think my fave book for Senior year has to be Heart of Darkness. That book was just... wow. It was so good that I actually got an A on our in class essay on it! :P Do you find this valuable? |

"The book IS pretty dang depressing, but it's just so good! "A lot of the books--and fanfiction, actually--I read and fall in love with are ones with depressing content. If a book can make me cry for weeks and weeks, that's even better. I'm weird that way, I think. I enjoy funny stories, too. I heard that Sue Townsend was a good pick for the more humorous kind of novels, but I've never actually read one of her books. Hm. This series called "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon was recommended to me a year back and right now it stands as the greatest series that I have ever read, even though I'm still not finished with it. "Outlander" has like seven books and I'm only about halfway through the fifth one. Each book has +800 pages. The 5th book has 1300ish. I think it's safe to say that it's going to take me a while to finish the whole thing. :( Do you find this valuable? |

"Cool!oh yes, Maya, I love Maya. Been using it since high school. My high school didn't even have a digital class so with my own money I bought the program and taught myself. By the tie I got to college the 3D classes were really easy. It helps that i got a head start lol Do you find this valuable? |

I'm weird that way, I think.lol, I have yet to find a truly great book that is genuinely happy. I guess that's just how it goes in the literary world? What's "Outlander" about? I haven't been able to read a non-curricular book in a long time so it'd be great to have someting else to read. I really want to read "When Atlas Shrugged" (I think that's what it's called?" by Ayn Rand. I've been really curious about the concept of objectivism ever since I played Bioshock... ^^ Do you find this valuable? |
