"I don't think the problem was with Jameron fans, I think the problem was that Riley and John never had great chemistry together. Their scenes together always felt so awkward, which made it hard for me to believe that the characters liked each other.

Maybe the problem wasn't with Leven/Riley, the problem was with Thomas Decker. The dude is obviously such a raging queen that it's impossible for any actress to have any chemistry with him. It's a credit to Summer Glau that she puts up with him, since Summer is such a nice girl, but you can tell from videos where they're out of character that she's weirded out by him. Summer's a much more experienced actress than Leven, so she can probably do a better job putting up with Decker.

So, now that Riley's gone, maybe we can take a sober look at the reasons why she wasn't popular, and maybe Decker shares some of the blame? "
That's practically my motto: "When in doubt, blame Thomas."

"I just hope she never read any of the message boards... :-("
If you read her blog...

Too late. She's read and digested and unfortunately I think she took the personal attacks to heart.

I liked Leven the actress and I never understood why people would take their hate of a fictional TV character out on a real live person.

"PS: Sorry if that is a little too harsh for some of you, but there is allot of bad things happening to people all over right now, and feeling sorry for an actress should be very low on the priority list.

"
I find the remarks horrid not because they may offend someone's sensibilities, but because they are indicative of a society, nay, a *civilization*, largely devoid of any class and decency.

I don't think it's easy enough to blame Decker. I really like him as John Connor and think he's done the best with what he's been given. You can't help it if him and Levin had no chemistry, sometimes that's just the way it go's.

Even if Glau was weirded out by him, she's professional enough to get on with it. Levin's character was essentially always disliked for good reason, because it challenged the relationship shippers had grown to love in season 1. Despite this, I myself have only realized how much I liked Levin until she got shot. I put this down to great storytelling!

"Her last comment is unfortunate.....

She has no business in show business if she takes fan comments to heart, and I don't feel sad for her in the least. Grow up for christ sake. As an entertainer, you have to expect that shit.
Good luck, and Good riddance.

PS: Sorry if that is a little too harsh for some of you, but there is allot of bad things happening to people all over right now, and feeling sorry for an actress should be very low on the priority list.

"If you are a famous girl and good looking then you shouldn't venture online if you don't want to see horrible comments about yourself. Its sad but the internet can be one big hate machine at times. This is why Summer doesn't read stuff about herself. "
It's a fair comment.

If you're an actor or actress with a recurring role in a high-profile network TV show watched by millions, then it's a fact of life that fans of the show are going to make comments about your personal appearance - positive and negative. If they don't like your character, then they'll use everything at their disposal to criticize him/her. Not saying that it's right - just that it's going to happen as surely as night follows day.

...and yes, I'm one of the people who has made 'Fat Riley' comments in the (not-too-distant) past - some of them jokey in nature (I don't think that LR is particularly fat in real world terms, FWIW), some of them in utter incredulity at the writers expecting the fans to believe that a healthy 16y.o. boy would choose a slightly chubby, plain-looking girl over one of the world's hottest women in the romance/sex department...

Yikes.

The chemistry was bad because Riley was NOT really in love with John. She was carrying out a mission. She was an emotional wreck, TRYING to pretend to like John while worrying about being killed by metal.

John has issues of his own, namely knowing that anyone he gets close to means their life is in danger.

Under these conditions for both characters, having an actual relationship is hopeless.

It is a real credit to her acting chops that Leven could carry a simple supporting role to make it such a center of controversy that was far beyond what the writing justified. The character that we loved to hate had me totally sucked in too.

She's got a great career ahead of her.

This coming from an (allegedly) 40-something guy whose frequent incoherent, ill-thought smack-talk towards other users and trollish-sounding 'TSCC iz teh serious business' rants display all the attitude and maturity of a pissy 14-year-old girl on MySpace?

Na, you'll have to excuse me if I don't particularly appear to care that you don't rate me.

Uh, I don't know who the hell you guys are talking about but Leven is one very, very good looking young lady. As for the brother's, we LIKE some junk in the trunk.

True Summer is slight of build, but she has enough bumps to get by - but she is a ballet dancer so we all get that. Lena is slim too, but she looks good in real dressy clothes from all the photos I've seen of her, real womanly grace without having to be a fake/plastic porn made up sex kitten. But Rily is still a cutie, and I guarantee she prob looks better than virtually every chick every distractor has gone out with.

There were times when she did look a bit heavy for TV, but truthfully, thinking about it now I would have liked to have seen someone more plain Jane but real looking for this part to sell it more. JC wasn't really attracted to her looks; it was the fact aht he had NO ONE to talk too at the time and she just barged into his life and not only took an interest but took it over: a SC he could kiss!

JC was already a wimp anyway: as strong as his mom was/is he deferred to her. This was how Riley wormed her way into his life. Any chick could have done that.

But they knew geeks like to have fantasies, so they brought in Leven to add some sex appeal bc they really didn't want to "go there" with the Jameron thing. You never see Caminator going all Alias or Dollhouse to accomplish a mission - which would be cool to see!

But Leven is FINE, but she is not on the starving model side. Neither is Beyonce or Alicia Keys! So lay off baby girl, before she grabs the nearest water pitcher and well...

Yea, I never got the Leven/Riley hate thing. I honestly think the only reason people hated her was because they were Jameron folks and saw her as a threat to Cameron and John hooking up.

Leven is average looking, not ugly .. I'm sure she is better looking than the girl friends of the people who hated on her. (If they even had girlfriends)

Thanks for the polite, well-reasoned response.

Personally, I prefer my women slim. As the song goes - "when it comes to females Cosmo knows everything what they're talkin' about". I don't disagree with that. ;)

FWIW, my previous girlfriend looked quite a bit like Jennifer Morrison, when she was a brunette.

Speaking as someone who used to be a 16 year old boy when he was 16, given a choice between a uber-hot, somewhat obedient, anatomically-correct cyborg who looked in her mid-20s and a plain(ish) 16 year old girl who I could have 'long talks' with, I'd have chosen the metal every single time.

Leven is only about a year older than me and has already been on a cable-network television show and has had to deal with hordes of fans that hate her character...

Honestly, I salute her for that. She's done great work on the show, and even if I didn't particularly like Riley I NEVER EVER could say the same to Leven.

So, good luck in your future career Leven! ^^
