TSCC can follow BSG as best written culturally impactful Sci Fi

Bsg had an article in USAToday.com today which was very cool. I've long thought this was the best written show on all of TV. I think because of the the story James Cameron wrote, TSCC has the broad foudation to rise about mere junfights,. chases and robots, and deal with larger issues in both a compelling and entertaining manner.

"For a show about outer-space robots, Battlestar Galactica is really about what it means to be human."

That sure sounds like how we'd like to see Cameron portrayed. I think doing that will catapult Summer to the top of the entertainment food chain: can't think of a more compelling character than her, certainly the most interesting sci fi one since Mr. Spock - and the most consistent scene stealer since him. JF should fight this but go with it, and let her fame rise to were it SHOULD be.

"This kind of subject matter elevated the show above sci-fi geekdom, earning the series a Peabody and on Tuesday a special United Nations screening, where its creators will discuss how international events fed their story lines."

TSCC is already one of the best written shows on TV, but needs to embrace it's Terminator core to gain popularity. But the concept of man doing himself in by his own hand is valid, and this can become a very visible voice for abuses of all sorts: military, political, industrial, environmental, cultural intoleance, etc.

That is a courageous venture I'd back JF on in a heartbeat!

"Battlestar will live on in various forms. Universal is developing a feature film, a new version not connected to the series. And Moore will be working on the Sci Fi Channel prequel series, Caprica, which begins next year and looks at Adama's family history and the origin of the Cylons. And there's a TV movie, The Plan, directed by Olmos and airing this summer, about the initial destruction of the human worlds from the Cylon perspective."

Popular show expand, not contract. T4 is part of the Terminator expansion, but do we really want a future without Cameron and Sarah making pancakes and blowing the crap out of stuff? We want our fav ass kickin' babes in full swing for a LONG time, do we not?

These are the kinds of things that can happen with a hit. I hope JF takes note of this, and sticks with his latest theme of actually providing a sci fi action adventure - which is what 18 million Terminator fans expected out of the pilot - and no more straying from the core Terminator story that has made this franchise successful for 25 years.

That's as long as BSG, only Terminator has enjoyed a much higher level of fan adoration - the entire world over. Everyone knows exactly where "I'll be back" came from, and what it means: ass kicking in progress - stay tuned, but... DUCK!

It's part of the charm that has made Terminator stay fresh and popular. T4 will show the world again the power that Terminator has, but WE have a TV show too! There is a LOT that can be done with that IMO. A lot already has, but it has a ways to go to live up to it's full potential.

I for one, as a fan, hope that it does.

It seems G. Rodenberry believed much more in the potential of his show than JF believes in his own.
Mr. Spock and Cameron. Yes. Both have the power to take us to "where no one has gone before" :-)

All the ranting you can stand is on my wiki page "Contiuity Whores Must DIE!" Link:

I didn't make this a thread, as I haven't seen the latest ep yet (West Coast). But most of it will stand no matter how good ep is. I just hope the ratings go up this week and we're done with fallout of slow JF brainfart ep decisions!

Someone said in other thread that he/she is tired of seeing Smallville´s Clark Kent doing dumbass moves. Well, believe it or not Smallville is being picked for a 9th season and to my knowledge hasn´t never been in danger of cancelation. Both shows share the same premise, that is, the development of a teenager into a hero or super-hero. Given the complexity/nuances of T:SCC (and Cameron´s presence of course ;-)) I would say it has potential for more than that. As you say... hope that it does.
