Josh Friedman article featured in Wired Magazine
Mar 24 2009, 1:04 AM EDT | Post edited: Mar 24 2009, 1:11 AM EDT
The article is called, "The Termiantor as a Metaphor for Life.". Woah....very intersting read. I never knew Josh had cancer. Josh had a bout with Kidney cancer right has he was about to start writing the pilot. And his fight with cancer found its way into the script.

"I realized that this show really was about my life. It was about mortality. The first voiceover I ever wrote for the series started with "I will die. I will die, and so will you. Death gives no man a pass." That's what the Terminators are — they're death coming to get us."

I have some more respect for the man then I already had.

He brought TSCC to us so he can't be the devil Chris makes him out to be.

Josh is a decent guy that cares about the show and the fans. He's actually much more patient with the rabid action junkies of the show than I am. He loves the Sarah character as much as the rest of us Sarah lovers do and I welcome him to the I Love Sarah Connor Fan Club.

He doesn't deserve the frothing criticism that Richardstevenhack and Coachchris have leveled at him. I understand what those two want, but if they would just take a look at what Josh wants they would understand much better what is going on in the show.

Nyccine's criticism of narcissism against Josh is unfounded which to me makes some of his other claims against Josh suspect. I have met Josh and had a nice chat with him.

My prayers and best wishes go out to Josh. I hope he has beaten his cancer.

Oh wow, and I totally thought the Sarah has cancer thing came straight from T3. This makes me value Josh's work even more. And I think he has great courage in what he does everyday, especially with the possibility of Fox ending his baby. And if he has beaten his cancer, I hope he can beat the ratings and get to a third season, not for our benefit, but for his. Do you find this valuable?

this answers a lot of questions i've seen inthis forum.

a lot of folks have said that this show isn't terminater. according to this article, the show is an autobiography on Josh, wrapped up as a show about terminators.

I wonder if that librarian man in the wheel chair (in that episode where cammy fought that terminator that went back to the 1920s) having a cancer relapse meant that josh had a relapse at some point?

in any case, best wishes to josh.

I must say, God bless him for not giving up, and fighting through his cancer. Knowing he himself survived cancer makes Sarah's on screen battle with it feel even more personal. Do you find this valuable?

Guys, digg the article, there's a tiny button at the bottom of the article saying "digg it". Do it, it's another way to get people hooked into this awesome show.

Also, the people who are criticizing the show, actually love the show. They criticize it because they are control freaks and are extremely upset that no one else is watching, not because they don't enjoy the show. If they didn't enjoy the show, they wouldn't care enough to criticize it. It's just human nature.

In fact, if everyone criticized politicians who have the same beliefs as them, we'd have a more perfect government. But alas, party spirit as the founding fathers have told, is the one thing that brings democracy down.

So the show is a family drama. This has become very clear during S2. We have three central characters: Sarah, John and Cameron. Unfortunately there was nothing in the article about Derek. As Johns uncle he is also family. He is not replacing Kyle nor is he some kind of father figure.

Best luck to Josh always, we see now he wrote Eric with his bone cancer from a unique perspective.

Oh and Jameron Josh cited family drama , which means Cameron is John's sister. Sarah's mechanical female child figure.............

The Luddites will never get it. imagination is not their strong suit.. Left to them, we'd still be waiting to discover how to make the wheel.

Despite my criticism of some aspects of the show, it is an absolutely crap deal re his health. Really hope he's beaten it. (As as has been said we LOVE this show, which is why we don't want to lose it! Or we'd be watchong crap soaps and turgid reality shows instead. We're hanging in there desperately by our fingernails, because wedon't want this to end:))

I find it ironic what he says about the metaphor. In the original Terminator story, did I not read somewhere that Cameron the inventor of the story took it from a dream he had about being chased by a Terminator? (Someone who knows the full story, please confim/deny.

If so, this is a seriously spooky coincidence, except even more terrifying in JF's case.

I shall listen to the TSCC dialogue with even more attention. Many little clues are dropped there.

Soooooo....that's how you respond to arguments? Assertions? That's it? You've met him, and this one experience invalidates everything ever said about him? Holy Christ, this is embarassingly bad.

God, you can't even get CoachChris' stance on the man correct; he's been singing JF's praises for how many weeks now?

Umm, "Soooooo....that's how you respond to arguments? Assertions? That's it? You've met him, and this one experience invalidates everything ever said about him? Holy Christ, this is embarassingly bad. "

Your response is embarrasingly bad. It sounds like you want to lay down on the floor, bang your hands and feet while your face turns red.

Chris hasn't been singing Josh's praises for weeks N. Your way off. Within the last 2 weeks he posted that awful post on the wikki about continuity whores.

My charge to you is that is this how you argue with over the top accusations and over exagerate what is printed. I said that your claim of narcism was unfounded and that lead me to question your other posts about him, but I guess you want to go over the top.

Your pathos is way over the top here.

Read it and weap,

i'm reposting my take on the writers......

i'm in the thinking that it was good that they (the writers) developed the storyline based on building characters in their own beliefs that it will resonate more with the audience rather than going for the storylines that is based on getting higher ratings...we might not see S3 (i hope i'm wrong) but at least they stuck to their principles on how they want to do things regardless of what others opinions maybe...that commends respect...in my opinion....

Zad, I hope he has beaten cancer too - I watched my dad go 3 years with no Kemo (it hurt like hell he said) when they gave him 3 months.

But I see whatever the hell JF is doing and has done with the show completely differently than you and we've talked about this.

What you see as "caring" I see as WTF? But I respect your view, bc I don't have your eyes and heart.

The most drama i figured outside of the war intrigue in fighting Skynet is depicted in the vintage video clip of Sarah and Kyle from T1 (you can find the link on my profile page) and it is 4 minutes of GOOD drama and some non-FX action, and JCameron deleted the scene.

I wanted to follow more of SC's life with this series, which I thought obviously would show that Skynet is still around, and out to get her and John, and would introduce a new cool Terminator and some other help, and the war against Skynet would happen.

Instead, after a year, YOU can't even tell me what is happening with this show as far as plot is concerned, or what the characters are doing, or why. That's not good as far as Terminator in concerned, but IS good as far as soap opera is concerned.

Not trying for this to be a put down (and I am over exaggerating the point to make a point) but I see the difference.

This is not a sci fi action adventure. The name is TSCC which completely suggests that - as does the Fox promo (and to believe JF has nothing to do with that is a complete farce - he sold them the show or at least knew WHAT they were being sold for millions of dollars, to protray that he doesn't AS the Exec Prod is a LIE to save face) - but if it had been named "no Fate" no one would have a problem with this.

But as he's done it, it makes him look like a Terminator continuity whore. That is why we feel he either is NOT a "big fan" or has his own agenda that is more important than the mythology or even the GREAT characters HE created.

Really perplexing, and I am getting tired of explaing the same thing over and over.

But hey, stay valient, my friend, I admire that you stick by guns. Hey, I'm sticking by you too, and believe I'm ON your "side" and also in support of JF bc that's HOW we get more TSCC, but I'll keep grumbling until I'm certain he isn't going to pull anymore fast ones that have viewers go from 18 to 3.5 million in only a year.

I don't know what you are looking at, but this is what I'm seeing. And I not trying to bask JF for no reason. But the problem is I put SC next to Bruce Lee on my hero list, and I know I need to let her go. as she is not mine, or even the public's to defend. She had a good run, and is a relic FROM the past: this new vision really doesn't pay tribute to her, or portray her in the manner she was after T2, even though it says the timeline is close.

Like T3, shich I enjoyed, but was annoyed that JC was a wussy and no SC and the plot sucked.
