"http://www.reuters.com/article/smallBusinessNews/idUSTRE55T3AP20090630The thing I don't get... Just how dumb is GGF anyway? Do they really honestly believe they'll be able to run a successful business? That all the people will stay at the Pirate Bay just because of the name? Yeah right. You don't need much brains to tell people will leave TPB in droves. Leaving GGF with a site that has... absolutely nothing. Edit: Interview with Peter Sunde: http://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bays-peter-sunde-discusses-the-sites-future-090630/ What I don't get here is Peter's talk of how TPB needs to reach the next level or some such crap. Why does TPB need to change? It's simple and it works. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"The thing I don't get...I love when people spend huge amounts of money, and then assume their investment is going to work, against undeniable odds. This just sucks. Well time to take my Pirate Ship (my Computer and 500 gb flashdrive) and set sail one last time, to go and seek out new movies/albums/televisions that i do not wish to spend money on. Maybe because I HAVE NO money. 1 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

In fairness, these guys did carry the fight all the way to jail. They took a strong stand for as long as possible. It's a shame the studios can't accept that file sharing builds an audience. It's no different than using a DVR. People like a show and watch it in many different ways. Some watch it live, some record on vhs, others dvr or fileshare. It's all part of the viewership/fanbase behind a show. TSCC had a huge international audience primarily because of filesharing. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

"In fairness, these guys did carry the fight all the way to jail. They took a strong stand for as long as possible.I downloaded every episode of Season two TSCC. I cannot afford DVR, and do not use VHS. If it werent for Torrents, I would have seen each ep only once, and that would have been it. They can try and try and try some more to erase Filesharing from the planet. Its not going anywhere. Not unless you shut down all servers and ISP around the globe. 1 out of 3 found this valuable. "In fairness, these guys did carry the fight all the way to jail. They took a strong stand for as long as possible."I don't agree. They've gone completely against what they stood for. The site was more than just about the tracker. Them getting convicted got the Pirate Party thousands of new members and a seat in the EU parliament. Issues were raised in the media that never got media attention before. Politicians now suddenly having to form a stance on matters of copyright and seeing it's actually important how they go about this, because it's important for getting the votes of younger people. The Pirate Bay were the drivers for change. Now they've totally shat on all this and look like sellouts. Unless there's something big we're all missing here. But the words of Peter Sunde still make no sense to me. Plus, the guys are not in jail yet. The judge was found not biased (totally ridiculous, I mean how is it not bias when the judge is in the same organizations as the lawyers of the prosecution?), but now it's appeal time. Unless they've given up the fight, but this would also mean going against all they've stood for. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

I actually avoid downloading torrents and the like. Yes, it's because it's illegal in America, but I'm a PC gamer who's had to deal with software "warez" since the 80's (when programmers would "crack" a game, allowing people to play pirated versions). You guys don't remember the bad old days of copy protection, I do. The Pirate Bay and sites like it are reasons copy protection resurfaced after it faded in the early 90's.I hate copy protection. It's irritating as hell. Do you find this valuable? |

You guys don't remember the bad old days of copy protection, I do. The Pirate Bay and sites like it are reasons copy protection resurfaced after it faded in the early 90's.Totally wrong view on this. Piracy exists and will exist whether games are "protected" or not. But what copy protection does is create *more* pirates, not less. Because the legitimate copy will potentially cause all sorts of shit (you yourself see it), while the pirated copy works without problems. Same for movies. I can't watch DVDs unless I break the "protection". For Blu-ray it's even worse. Even if I had the equipment (a Blu-ray drive and a strong enough processor), I couldn't watch some movies, because... you guessed it, the "protection". All it does is drive people to piracy. No sense in buying the original if I can't watch it, I'll of course go for the downloaded version which works out of the box. The music industry actually figured this out to a degree, iTunes is now DRM-free. Don't believe the propaganda of the content industry. 3 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |
