New Forum Categories!
Aug 11 2009, 1:50 PM EDT | Post edited: Aug 11 2009, 1:50 PM EDT
Hey everybody!
You've probably noticed that the latest upgrade to our dear site includes forum categories! We can now organize discussion topics by categories. Our dedicated mod squad is faithfully working to move discussion threads to their proper categories, so thanks for your patience as we undertake this mondo task. In the meantime, please jump on in and start your topics in the appropriate categories, or feel free to drop an email to suggest other categories.
Thanks all!

LOL! It was more of an organization by "page", but these are more similar to your standard forums, and will be nice, once we get them in use! Do you find this valuable?

This whole new categories thing is pretty neat, but the fact is I'm just gonna stick to the "all threads" page anyway. I think at least the most veteran members will too.
All the mods work here will just go to waste for me. Oh, well...

Even so, it may cut down on the amount and speed of trolling by outside sources. Of course, it would do little to slow down trolls which were members of the wiki at one time. But then it would be relatively easy to spot them. Do you find this valuable?

"How can I get all threads to be the default tab again?"
Someone may correct me here, but as far as I know you can't. This could be sort of a problem because when you click on the "Discussions" thread at the top of the page, you go to the category selection page and not to the "all threads" page like you used to now.

One possible solution is to create a favorite or marker link on your browser (whether it's Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox) that takes you straight to the "all threads" page. That's what I do and have done for a long time now.

Go to Discussions. Somewhere on top of the screen, there is an option that says "All threads". Click it. And there it is.

It is a very good question, Olivaw.

Yeah, of course, I know this. It's just that when you used to click on "Discussions" before, you went straight to the "all threads" page without having to click anywhere else.
Now you go to the category selection page first and once there you still have to click on the "all threads" tab. It's a waste of time and too boring, so that's why I circumvent the problem by using my "markers" bar on Firefox and going straight to the "all threads" page this way.

Yeah, it's one click extra which makes all the difference when you have to do it several times a minute in some occasions to refresh the page or to go back to the "all threads" page if you're inside a thread.
Yeah, I know, you can also press F5 if you're already in the "all threads" page, but not if you're inside a thread and want to get out.

P.S.: I see your new avatar today didn't last much. The new one is still much better than the headshot one, though. Keep ot that way. lol

When I first clicked onto the discussion page and it brought up the categories, my vision went blurry and I could hear "All Along the Watchtower" in the distance. Thank God I found this thread, cos' I was like an ant with a leaf on the line for a second there.

Hmm, I have one tab that's always dedicated to the Threads page. Any threads I open, get opened in new tabs. I've always browsed like this, on all forums I visit, since ages. Because of that, I didn't at all get what all the fuss was about today, because for me nothing changed.

lol - it is this thing between MR and myself. I just hope we will not become like Deadpool and (I think) Zable. They are aweome, but stabbing eachother is a little bit too kinky for my taste.

See it as extra clicks for the wiki.

"do not want."
My tech is somewhat underpowered here. When I go to a page it takes some time to load. It isn't the effort to make the extra click that bugs me, its the extra wait to load.

/sigh guess its time to upgrade again. more $.

If you're using Firefox, just place a shortcut to the "all threads" section in your bookmark tool bar. :)
