"Just making conversation" - Guardian article about AI and sexbots

Just found this news article copied from The Guardian:

"Sexbots with love byte"

http://www.theage.com.au/world/sexbots-with-love-byte-20090918-fvcz.html

To sum up, it covers topics which are VERY relevant to TSCC: the move away from chess-playing AIs to physically/verbally interactive AIs; the evolution of robots to serve human needs (yes, even THOSE needs); and my personaly favourite - the Turing Test.

Would J. Henry, C. Weaver, or Cameron pass a Turing Test???

With ease.

Would they stand the Voight-Kampff-Test?

Nah. Why not try to offer the direct link to the book, dear robo-hater? You really prefer the BS?

Here is:

Love and Sex with Robots: The Evolution of Human-Robot Relationships

http://www.amazon.com/Love-Sex-Robots-Human-Robot-Relationships/dp/0061359750

From REAL reviews of this book:

"Love with robots will be as normal as love with other humans," Levy writes, "while the number of sexual acts and lovemaking positions commonly practiced between humans will be extended, as robots teach us more than is in all of the world's published sex manuals combined."
...
At this point you are likely holding up both hands with palms outward in the internationally recognized gesture meaning "Stop." This sounds crazy. Clearly robots are not going to become plausible objects of sexual relationships, much less actual romance and genuine love, until they have a serious makeover. Human love isn't so shallow that we'll fall for the first machine with a nice pair of antennae.
...
The key is that these technological advances will someday be complemented by cultural changes, and cavorting with robots just won't seem weird anymore. "It would not surprise me if a significant proportion of readers deride these ideas until my predictions have been proved correct," Levy writes, and then makes a cheap analogy to people who once were hostile to the idea that the Earth was round rather than flat.

I'm still trying to get a handle on ET ships: http://tinyurl.com/ETlovebites

Robots are not on my list. Then again, if a sexy female cyborg fooled me into having sweet love with her a la Vick's Chip, What can I do? Ask her, "hey, you're too perfect. are you a cyborg or an ET?"
