As for the stability of WB and its piggy bank, keep in mind WB is a subsidiary of Time Warner (a rather large elephant in the room).Do you find this valuable? |

Thanks for the link LM. But I gotta say, that doesn't bode well for ANY movie studio if the numbers work out as they did for Independence Day. Just look at Transformers 2, Harry Potter 6, or Spiderman 3, each with budgets of 210 million, 250 million, and 258 million respectively, before the massive marketing efforts spent on all of them as well (more than the 75 million spent for Independence Day, certainly). That's an increase in budget of 135-175 million, and easily 25-30 million on marketing as well, so we're talking 150-200 million in increased costs. Even with all 3 making more than 800 million at the Box office (Transformers made 833 million, Spiderman 3 890 million, Harry Potter 934 million) that still puts the studios substantially in the red with a megahit film. How can the movie industry be so profitable if they giving 50% or more of the gross to the cinemas? It just doesn't add up. Things must have changed or the math just doesn't work. I am not sure if it relates to Bollywood or Hollywood. Again, ID was more than 10 years ago. Do you find this valuable? |

Spiderman and Terminator have established a certain amount of revenue so Halcyon et all can take (or sell) a certain amount of up front $ to gamble. And some films can work on an upfront loss because studios make revenue off of their libraries and past goods that generate revenue. Most directors, actors, tradesmen work on up front money (contracts and such can be looked up on WGA, DGA, AFTRA etc) which of course doesn't include points (and points are hard to recover). The studios and producers - who have incredibly deep pockets in most cases, can wait out the DVD sales. They get paid upfront too, but they also take in the bigger checks later. If a film can cover it's expected cost durring its run, it's considered a success. T4 didn't. Not really close. Do you find this valuable? |

In reference to DVD sales, we shouldn't forget that the franchise return isn't just for T4; Because of the interest it produces, sales of the first 3 films on DVD should also increase in the T4 promotional period I would think.Where would the profits from them go? Do you find this valuable? |

"Yo, easy with the rant there. I explained where I got my own numbers from, and it's always been a guess, plain and simple. I repeated that on the Box Office Mojo gross numbers. It's always been an estimate with the reasoning I provided. Nothing wrong with that. Nor is there anything wrong with giving the fans here an idea of where the money's going and why. Yes, it's all guesswork, we all admit that, but it's EDUCATED guesswork. We're doing research and looking things up so we aren't pulling numbers out of our behinds. You shouldn't yell at us for putting a lot of effort into this.Didn't mean to rant, but some posters here were getting rather snarky - and rather uppity about their snarkiness - when all that was being said was what the overall numbers that have been produced were (and anything that was done with the money earned is something completely out of our control). That's not to say that fans here can't speculate, but to infer someelse is stupid bc they don't know or care what was done with the money - bc NONE of "really" know - just seemed like it was going to become (yet another flame war) over something none us us have a vested stake in. Hopefully, that tone has calmed down, and we can move forward in our discussions. Bottom line is we have to find a way to agree to disagree on various points without going to guns as the first option. When emotions come into play the insults start to fly and the quality and value of the wiki goes way down. I hate to see that happen (and have been an offender myself); and would like us to be mature enough as a group to keep a level head (even though as "fans" aka "fanatics" the very definition means we have all lost our collective minds! I have been encouraged to see the distribution money paid to Halcyon as advances from Sony and Warner Bros. That’s not to say the owners of the franchise aren’t entitled to this, just it is not clear who’s going to be the owner. For the film Gross 371.1m $ Less Cost 217m $ (Case against Benjamin cites 17m in overruns and Halcyon paid 5.46m of their own money Less marketing 80m $ Less 25% retained by cinemas 92775m Less 1% gross paid to Dubai Film Co 3.711m (22.386m) $ - owed for Sony’s marketing costs? Dominon Holding Company has assets of 3.5m $ and that 22.386 m $ loss as liabilities. The 18.55 m $ Anderson and Kubicek received from their 5% producer fee of Gross, probably disappeared into personal account as quickly as possible. T Asset Acquisition Company: Assets 30m$ - all rights to the Terminator franchise. Liabilities: Debt to Pacificor estimated at 70m $ but cut to 4m -32m as part of the manoeuvring that settled Halcyon’s action against Pacificor. Halcyon still has a 20m $ debt from T:SCC to pay, presumably, to Warner Bros. The original T4 budget of 200m $ had half from Sony, and 25% each from Warner Bros and Halcyon. Warner Bros marketing fee increased to 60m $. Where might Halcyon have found 50m $ from? Vajna and Kassar may have invested their 30m and Sony and Warner Bros may have actually invested 10 millions each. I estimate they owe their investors 85.51 millions based on a ratio of gross/cost. Halcyon have produced 4 books with a fifth on the way. They’ve produced a graphic novel and 1 out of 6 mechanima graphic novels. In addition, they’ve had to produce DVD/Bluray discs for both T:SCC and T4. I give Warner Bros a profit of 25m $ from providing production facilities and say that they’ve advanced money for these projects.. Halcyon owes an unspecified amount for their T4 video game. According to Halcyon’s website, they bought the rights to and pledged 30m $ for a film about the founding of the Bildeburg Group.Call the debt maximum of the 3 companies at 220m $ and have incoming distribution money of 160m $. That’s approx 60m $ to find from DVD sales. Sony has a net loss of 60m and Warner Bros.and Halcyon’s obligations cancel each other out (60m/60m) - all before DVD sales. Not paying the distribution fees keeps Vajna and Kassar from scraping together 60m and buying back into the T-Franchise. Sony aren’t going to pay until they’ve had money from the DVDs. Sony’s projected loss may be lower on account of Sony Cinemas showing the film and retaining revenue. Sony may be keeping the license fee paid by the Japanese channels showing T:SCC. I am convinced the bidding process is just a valuation exercise. Providing the DVD sales bring in sufficient income, the remaining distribution rights fees are paid, a 50% stake in the franchise will be sold to Vajna and and Kassaar. That would value the franchise at 120m $ and make Vajna and Kassar equal partners. The Video game gave credits to Canalplus, therefore Halcyon has some residual rights to purchase. Halcyon will probably offer Pacificor 4m $ as a full and final settlement. Pacificor will refuse because a) not enough and b) three’s still that other court case. Once the Cinematic release comes to an official close, there’s nothing to stop Halcyon selling first TV screening rights to TV companies in countries around the world for T4. That ought to be a nice little earner. By the time the New Year comes around, T Asset and Dominion Group ought to have been folded into The Halcyon Company and the only issue to be settled is how much Pacificor will be paid. Oh, the rights to the Franchise may be sold, if Halcyon receives an offer they can’t refuse. Do you find this valuable? |

I would really like to see Josh F. take the Terminator franchise over and continue with S3. Come on people, he gave us T.S.C.C. He would no doubt have to raise the bar, but I know he could do it. His direction is the only interesting one, and the last episode left off with something intriguing to the story. A story about T1001, John's relationship to the machines and a possible third faction. It's going to take a new story to get T movie off and going with more about the enemy Skynet. In my mind Josh F. is the only man for the job. He can do something interesting with it. Otherwise I think the audience is sick of the Terminator revolving door and the same old thing. Josh has established a fan base that in my mind will never accept anything less. Good luck to whomever try's something else. lol They at least better get him on board. The family watched Astro Boy and it was great! It may be a age old story but it's always inspiring to see the machine become something more. The human and machine relationship will always be the focal point of any T movie. It's not about John and Sarah's personal hero story anymore. The machines are now superior, but each has something to learn from each other. Perhaps the shift will be can the machines save humanity or the destruction of earth, due both faults. Do you find this valuable? |

That’s not to say the owners of the franchise aren’t entitled to this, just it is not clear who’s going to be the owner.Ok My numbers for T4 DVD sale are about 5 million DVD (just a rational guest), it is a profit of about 35 millions, plus TSCC DVD Sales profit about 30 million, plus T1, T2, T3 are selling good because of T4... Terminator Salvation make profit small one for a Terminator movie.... Halcyon big problem is T4 Video game... really bad game..... with this numbers we will have new terminator movies, more TSCC and new owner of Terminator rights Do you find this valuable? |

I'm ranting here but would anyone else like to see a scene where John is fighting a older Ternator model and the Terminator hesitates for a moment and John realizes that some machines are self-a-ware and John starts to bargan with it. I think Josh left off perfect in S2 because John is not aware that some have turned against Skynet. How cool would that be and would really kick off a new movie or a movie to DVD.

"T4 hasn't made money. It's lost money. And there's at least as much hate for McG's version as there is praise. Not good.you or anyone one else cant really say if T-4 made or lost money. I think it did make money or would have to be considered a mild success finacially. here is why. I compared it to GI Joe which was well recieved and I would think it was considered a success? T-4 _Worldwide: $371,352,910 budget_200 mil G.I. JOE_Worldwide: $301,060,793 Budget: $175 million so gi joe cost 25 mil less, but made 70 mil less so T-4 did better at box office. however when it comes to making the dvd and then merchandising other products based upon the film I think this is where halycon has no idea what to do and they could have made alot of $ off merchandising, before, during and after the movie was at theatres. also people who liked T-4 expected a directors cut that extended the movie by 20 to 30 minutes and instead got 3 min I think. so another mistake. they should also have a alternate ending where marcus lives. but back to success or not, if T-4 didnt make $ then gi joe didnt either, and the same would be true of alot of movies I got my info here you can look for yourself. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2009&p=.htm STAR TREK_Worldwide: $384,953,671 Budget: $150 million.... so did it lose $ too? T-4 is still ranked #16 on usa box office gross 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
